Sights & Landmarks
Mercier Orchards is a picturesque, 300-acre fruit orchard that was founded in 1943. They offer pick-your-own seasonal fruits and have a variety of products available at their shop, including their own cidery with seasonal wines and slushies. Their website features a schedule of currently available produce so visitors can plan accordingly. The facility is well-maintained and has clean restrooms with an attendant on duty to ensure cleanliness.
We love coming up to Mercier’s when we are in the area. We bought several items consisting of bread, pies, and donuts. They all tasted great! The staff are friendly and love to serve. The experience in the store takes you back in time.I haven’t experienced the orchards yet but have it on the list.

I went on a Saturday in September and again in October, and both trips were really nice. The location and property are gorgeous, the baked goods are delicious, and the apple picking is a nice activity. The apple cider donuts and fried apple pies are bomb. The weather in October was cooler and the crowd was significantly larger. The crowds also seemed to grow as the day got later, so I'd recommend getting there as early as possible.

As a lover for Wine && Cider, this is a must to visit! They have Cider & Wine tasting! Make their own, as well as sell other wines. My favorite was their Blackberry Wine and I don't even like blackberries. The only negative I'd say, is how small their Wine bottles are for the price. They are half the size of a normal wine bottle, which are cute, but not for the price. Would love to visit again when it's Spring and see how the fields look!

This place is simply amazing! They have everything you need for fresh produce and daily made bakery goods. If you want a fritter, you best get there early as they sell out very fast. Their fruit pies are delicious!! You won't find a better apple in Georgia than you will here.10/10 recommend.

We've been coming to Mercier orchards for a while, but we took the kids berry picking for the first time and they had a blast! So fun, and now we have a ton of yummy berries. Not to mention the store is always a good shopping experience. Will continue to come for a long while!

Excellent for families, especially the Upick Apples or peaches. The ride to the orchards was fun and the views were spectacular. The pies were delicious and the tasting of their local fruit and alcoholic beverages was fun and nice.

Had the wonderful fall experience of apple picking at Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, GA. We picked Fuji and Rome apples. Also had a great time shopping at their store and purchased more apples of many varieties as well as ciders both sparkling (hard and soft), peach butter, peanut brittle and the most delicious 9 inch strawberry rhubarb pie ever. So glad we visited. Mercier Orchards is a treasure and to be there in October was truly a joyful part of the season.
Jay W — Google review
They have it all! Everything is really good, and if you are concerned about eating too much sugar, be advised that they have a number of no-sugar-added products (apple hand pies, jams, syrups, etc.). I especially like the frozen apple cider as it travels well and is available when it's not apple season. Totally worth a stop.
Playa S — Google review
This is the best farm market in Georgia! There is plenty of parking, and the mountains and fields next to the market are incredibly beautiful. The peaches they sell here are the best in Georgia. They have a variety of peaches, but you can try a few of them first, so you can decide which one you like best. The apples here are also delicious. They sell a variety of other items besides peaches, so be sure to visit! I highly recommend it!

If you travel into north Georgia to go apple picking this place is a MUST stop orchard! My family goes up north each year but this year was a first at Mercier Orchards and now we will ONLY be coming here! The U-pick apples are amazing and delicious. The brewery and vineyard have so much to choose from. And lastly the store has everything you could think to bring home from apple cider donuts to the best jams and jelly.

If you visit Blue Ridge, GA, then Mercier Orchards is a must go to!!! It's an apple orchard that hosts a variety of apples, vegetables and also sunflowers. The shop on site is great with a huge variety of goods! There is also a winery on site to taste the wines and hard ciders offered. The tractor tour is well worth it, especially during U-pick!! We visited on August 2, 2024, decided on the tractor tour with U-pick. The apples available that day for picking were Blondies, Golden Supreme, and Mackintosh. All ages in our group (2yrs to 65yrs) enjoyed this part. The 2 yr old ate while he picked which is a great way to see if you enjoy the apples available. Definitely worth the trip, time and money!!!

Loved it. The weather was great. The orchard and the shop was great. Loved taking the grands to pick apples. Only drawback was the bag they gave you to hold the apples. They could be a little sturdier. GREAT EXPERIENCE
Ondra E — Google review
It's beautiful! We just missed the U-pick, but we took our time inside, looking around. I didn't realize they have so much of EVERYTHING inside. Clothes, food, snacks, bakery, a sit-down area to eat, etc. We will definitely be back. Try these drinks! So good! We bought every flavor.

Huge orchard that offers U Pick fruit!! Beautiful landscape, fun outing, and get some fresh fruit while here.I went in September so it was apple season,$10 1/4 peck bag. A tractor takes you out to where the picking is, you can pick as much as you can fit in your bag, you can also eat the apples right off the tree! Fantastic experience!!! The apples were crisp, juicy, and amazing!!There’s also a very large general mercantile store with a free samples, bakery, produce, lots of knick knacks etc. they serve a breakfast menu until 11:30 and the bakery items are available all day. Prices are reasonable. The cookies and donut were delicious!!

A huge store displaying their own products. I love the blue apple sparkling water, non-alcohol and alcoholic. There were free tasting inside. They also have bakery, and the apple cinnamon loaf was my fave

First time in Blue Ridge and this was on the itinerary. An amazing place! First stop was the tasting room to get a flight of the covers, ended up buying two six packs and a couple bottles of Apple and Strawberry wine. Later on, came back for the tractor tour where we got to pick sunflowers. Sometimes places like this have limited stuff to do and a very small store, but this place has everything. Didn't get a chance to eat a pie or cake, but if you really wanted to indulge here, you could easily leave the place in a wheelbarrow. Will be back!

I enjoy visiting this place every year. I like their fresh apples. I try to get every variety of their apples. Every year they put something new in their store. You can pick apples or buy from store. You can have picnic around their little lake.

My wife and I loved the blue/black berry picking. The whole experience was great. The tractor ride up to the berries was fun. It’s very affordable as well. The main shopping center is very interesting. I would recommend for a cute date

First time ever going apple picking, and I was happy to have had that experience at Mercier Orchards! I had a blast and felt like a kid going through the Orchards and picking some delicious Fuji Apples to bring back home! I finished off the experience by going to their store to purchase some of their famous cider, which, by the way, is AMZAING!! Please don't ask, which was my favorite because I can't just pick one LOL

Scenic Railroads
Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is a heritage railroad company that offers a 4-hour, 26-mile round-trip ride as well as themed trips. They have both open-air and closed cars for passengers to choose from. Along the hour-long route up and during the two-hour pit stop on the state line, passengers can enjoy scenic views. The train also offers snacks such as candies, popcorn, hot tea, and hot chocolate in one of its cars.
Oh my goodness! This adventure is an absolute must! The staff was incredible, and Mary Ann, our train attendant, was fantastic—so attentive, kind, and funny. The scenery was breathtaking, and we had such a wonderful time in Cooper-mill, Tennessee! We decided to spoil ourselves and take the premium "car," which I highly recommend. It was totally worth it! You get a delicious snack, free beverages, and a freshly baked cookie at the end. If you're in the mood for an adult beverage, they offer those too, but they aren't included. Overall, a fantastic experience! The photo is of my brother and my brother from another mother!

I did enjoy the train ride. The employees were amazing…the concession stand on board was amazing. Fun experience riding an old time train….the ONLY reason I gave 4 stars was because the website said the views were great etc etc but there weren’t many views other than the Toccoa River. No Mountain views just wooded areas, we did see some deer and pretty cabins. We did he two hour ride.

Finally decided to go and book this year. I've heard pretty good things. We took the 2 hour trip. Recommend getting there at least one hour before to find parking. If you are planning on having lunch maybe do 3 hours. The boarding process is super easy and fast. We got the open cart (I want to say it was 2795?) Our guide was awesome, I think he said it's his first year maybe. He did really great. 1000% go for the open cart, the breeze was great and we found it pretty relaxing. It really doesn't matter what side you pick because you rotate sides when you get to Tennessee.I would definitely recommend the 2 hour trip unless you have no way way to drive the 15 minute up to the border. But mostly because in the afternoon we found the sun hitting the leaves just right. It made them pop more and it was just very nice. Decently bring sunglasses tho some parts where very sunny.

The Blue Ridge scenic railway is a must for anyone visiting Blue Ridge. The thing I enjoyed most is that we had a narration that was very engaging. Magic Mike was our conductor and he made sure everyone was entertained. Mike told jokes throughout the ride including doing magic tricks. He acknowledged birthdays, anniversaries and anyone serving in the military. The ride was very scenic with views of the river on one side and the mountains on the other. They stuck to the schedule and we were done in about 4 hours.
Derrick R — Google review
If you hadn't been on the scenic railway and plan to go to Blue Ridge-- please add this to your itinerary! We had a blast on the train. I highly recommend getting the open air car because why ruin this wonderful experience looking through a window? lol. I also recommend doing the 4 hour train ride it is definitely worth it, and you get to have a layover in Copperhill, TN! Get your tickets in advance, though, because they sell out pretty quickly!

I wasn't able to make the fall trip last year but I did the summer ride again this month. Jeff was our guide and he was hilarious!!! He was very knowledgeable and gave us sooo much history!!! I will continue taking this ride in the future it is relaxing, entertaining and educational!!!

Charlie was our cabin guide. He was amazing. I couldn't go in gift shop. I was by myself and on my scooter. Has ramp to go up and bighump can't get over in door. So I didn't go In and purchase anything.I love how they ask u change side on ride back. Was very nice

I enjoyed this train ride because it was very peaceful. I had the best tour guide -Denisha- & would recommend her to guide everything! She was wonderful, personable, funny & knowledgeable. I purchased the 4 hour fall ride on the closed coach. I did the layover, however, it is not necessary but a pleasant addition to the experience.

We had a great time! Maryanne was a super host/guide and very friendly! We took the Premier Ride and she was on top of her game! The sandwiches and snacks were delicious and she was always checking to see if we needed anything else to drink. The scenery was beautiful as we were blessed with great weather.

We had a great time riding the train! Our guide (Denisha) was knowledgeable and super friendly. Loved train car 549, and all of its history!
David H — Google review
The staff on each train cart were fantastic, especially our guide, who was both knowledgeable and engaging. While the scenic views were beautiful, the towns themselves didn’t offer much to do. Even with a four-hour stop, there wasn’t enough time for a proper sit-down meal. You mostly just walk around, see the state lines, and wander a bit. I think the time could have been better spent elsewhere. That said, the train ride itself was comfortable and made for a smooth round trip.
Kat B — Google review
This was a fun trip. There was 8 of us and we all were able to ride together. Staff were great and knowledgeable.

This railway ride I to McCaysville, Ga/Copperhill, TN. was extremely calm and beautiful scenery between. Thoroughly enjoyed this trip and the staff on the train were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Very nice snack box car to visit if you did not bring anything to munch on. Enjoyed the layer in the border towns fun shops to walk thru and shop, nice eats in this little area too!
Berina M — Google review
My son and I went today (October 13 2024) I give it a max of 3 stars because the staff are great. The train ride is very boring and all you see are trees, rental properties (houses) and some views of the river, that's it. No mountains or tunnels to go through or anything excited/worthwhile. Great for kids age 5 and under. Mostly trees and rental properties is your "scenic" view. Would not do again.
Leo — Google review
Super great experience and ride! Booked the 4 hr. Excursion and so glad we did! (Wish there was a 3 hr. Layover! We could have really used another hour layover because there wasn't enough time to eat and see everything we wanted to with only 2! Lol!) Our car Conductor was very informative and humorous, explaining all the history and local sites that we passed along the way. We opted for the climate controlled car with better seats, which was great since it was a hot and humid day and made the ride much more enjoyable.Spend some time in Blue Rudge when you get back checking out all that the town has to offer as well!Highly recommended! Overall great day and time/money well spent!
Beth M — Google review
We took my dad to ride the scenic train for his 70th birthday. The staff was so nice and made sure to take care of all our needs. They even let the little boy beside us go to the conductor area!!!!

Fantastic experience 👍 - Our guide, Rory, made the trip come alive with a mix of interesting Blue Ridge History and family friendly jokes. Clean and well maintained train - an hour up, two hours in the small town for lunch and sightseeing, then an hour back. Worth the ticket and we’d do it again for sure!

This was a vibe!! We enjoyed!! We took the 2 hour express open air ride..the train was clean, plenty of sitting area..bathroom onboard and a store/bar/gift shop onboard as well!! If you’re ever looking in blue ridge ga..try it!!

Riding the rails will never be the same once you've tried them on a rail bike. This unique experience allows passengers to pedal or E-motor along a closed section of the Blue Ridge Railway. Guides provide lively commentary along the way while highlighting local history. Bikes are designed to accommodate 4 riders were one is a "driver" and all can assist in pedal power. The route passes through some beautiful landscapes, homes and cabins. Tickets are purchased online with pickup at the red caboose. Review all participant guidelines as there are min. and max. physical requirements. Free and paid parking are available in the town center and surrounding areas.

Ride was great. Car 105 was great. If I were to ride again I would choose the open car for better visibility. But as for comfort we had the best seat in the house!

Cades Cove is a valley located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that offers a scenic drive through preserved homesteads and churches, providing a glimpse into mountain life 150 years ago. The Cove's 11-mile loop allows for leisurely exploration, with opportunities to observe wildlife such as black bears along the way. Short trails provide additional access to the area's natural beauty. Take your time and soak in the history and stunning views of this popular destination.
The Cades cove scenic loop is one of the best places to see eastern black bear, and of course the scenery and historical log buildings are great too. The campground has no hookups or showers available (flush toilets and potable water are though) but the sites are not too close and the wooded setting is nice with lots of wildlife in the campground.

What a beautiful place! It was a lovely hour drive around the loop! The scenes were so beautiful and we saw a bear!! Make sure you donate on the way in or out!
Katy R — Google review
We had an awesome time driving through here! I came in the off season so it was slightly less crowded than usual, but still pretty busy. We saw two bears, some wild turkey, and a fox which was cool. Overall this was a super scenic drive that I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!
Ethan U — Google review
Beautiful as always. This is something the whole family enjoys doing. There are plenty of places to stop and stretch your legs with little hikes or historic farms, homes and churches
Heather T — Google review
If you're in the Smoky Mountains and you want to see bears, this is the place. Now you need to plan to be there early, but I think if you drive around there are multiple loops that you can go.I drove the 11 mile loop first, then I did the 5 Mile loop, then I did the 2 Mile loop.Saw bears in a couple spots and missed some by just minutes. But even if you don't see bears, there's other wildlife. So be careful when driving and plenty of places to stop and see cabins and beautiful sights.
P Y — Google review
Definitely worth driving through! We were not sure what we were going to see if anything. My kids wanted to see a bear. Everyone said if you want to see bear in the wild this is the place to go. It didn’t disappoint. We saw a bear cub right off the start. So adorable! We saw several other bears and a few deer. Give yourself about 3-4 hours it really does take that long! You can’t rush it , you will be behind other vehicles that are all moving slow. So pack some snacks and enjoy the ride.
Kimberly R — Google review
Amazing views, even if you don't see much wildlife. We saw several turkeys, deer (very close to our car), and 2 sets of mama bears and cubs. Traffic can get really backed up when bears are spotted as cars stop wherever they want. We saw a truck with camp chairs set up on the bed which is a great idea. Also saw people way to close to the bears trying to get pictures. Remember these are wild animals! No charge other than $5 parking pass but not sure if it's checked.
Steve P — Google review
Stunning mountain views, tons of wildlife, and history to see. Pack your patience, though, cause it is a one-way loop that experiences traffic constantly with people stopping to look at things. Saw a bear, a couple deer, and some turkeys.
Taylour D — Google review
Cades Cove is a wide green valley that is surrounded by mountains & is one of the most popular destinations in the Great Smokies. It offers some of the best opportunities for wildlife viewing in the park. Large numbers of white-tailed deer are frequently seen (we saw a small female deer that was quite shy of us), and sightings of black bear (we saw 2 for only maybe 2 minutes before they hid in a bush), coyote (sadly we saw none but I've seen them in Georgia), ground hog (sadly we saw none), turkey (sadly we saw none but I've seen them in Tennessee when I was younger), raccoon (sadly we saw none), skunk (sadly we saw none), and other animals are also possible. This is an 11-mile one-way loop road that circles the cove & offers motorists the opportunity to sightsee at a leisurely pace.
Kendall G — Google review
No cars on Wednesdays- perfect for a biking trip. Saw 3 baby bears (kept our distance)Absolutely beautiful scenery and some fun stops along the route to explore
Eleanor T — Google review
What a fabulous place!!! Want to see bears, coyotes, woodpeckers and other wildlife? Check! Lovely landscapes and foggy mornings? Check! The 11 mile loop road and adjacent roads provide a plethora of scenery and photo ops. Sadly, Somedays it can be crowded and traffic slowed to a halt.
David ( — Google review
We drove through on a rainy day. It was nice -- we saw a few turkeys, a deer, and a bear. I know there is so much more than the driving view. I can't wait to take another trip to hike there!
Deborah B — Google review
Beautiful place! We saw so many bears . Took a lot of pictures. There was a lot of wildlife to view. The mountains looked so beautiful.
Terri W — Google review
This beautiful drive-through experience is filled with historic sights. You can stop to explore old cabins, chapels, gravesites, and many other places from the time Cade’s Cove was first established. The sheer beauty of the surrounding landscape is breathtaking. We were lucky enough to see some animals in their natural habitat. This is a great activity for the whole family!
Stephanie B — Google review
Beautiful drive through a historic area with lots of wildlife! It's best to go early morning or late afternoon/evening as it is a one-way narrow road and people tend to stop in the middle of the road when they see wildlife which causes a backup for miles.
Lyndee D — Google review
It is recommended to arrive early and discover why it’s called Smoky Mountain. There's a chance to see a black bear—avoid getting too close and becoming the center of unwanted attention. Respect nature. Enjoy the stunning and majestic views of the misty mountains.
Kye — Google review
We had an amazing experience at Cades Cove. The scenery was breathtaking, and we were fortunate to see many bears and their cubs during our visit. The loop road allowed for a leisurely drive with plenty of opportunities to pull over and take in the sights. The historical structures and abundant wildlife made it a memorable trip. We highly recommend visiting early in the day to avoid crowds and have a more peaceful experience. This was definitely a highlight of our trip to the Great Smoky Mountains.
Nicholas B — Google review
Start early because it can take awhile to drive through with all the plenty of things to stop and see. Amazing views from every direction. Hidden paths and hikes all around. You could spend forever here.
Joe C — Google review
Five stars for the scenery, it’s truly gorgeous! However, one star to the people coming to a complete stop on a one way road, despite multiple signs instructing not to stop or idle. One star to the people that jumped out of their car and chased after a bear that had just run across the road and into the forest. Don’t be these people, enjoy nature from your car or take advantage of the road closing on Wednesday’s for biking.
Krysten S — Google review
I love going here. The view of the Smokey mountains never disappoints. Sometimes you get lucky to see wildlife and sometimes you don’t. I would recommend going here if you ever go to the Smokey mountains.

The Knoxville Zoo is a great place to visit for families with kids, as it offers educational experiences and plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. From camel rides and carousels to splash pads and even a family petting zoo, there's something for everyone at this zoo.
It was a wonderful day with my son, their Uncle Wesley, and 2 & 3 yr old granddaughters. Their parents were on a BD and Anniversary get away. It was miserably hot so the misters were nice to walk through. All the animals were out and we seen them all but the Bears. We actually noticed how Healthy all the animals looked too. We are so very proud of Knoxville Zoo. The moving and roaring Dino's throughout was exciting. I wish we had known more about the Dino Eggs while we were actually there. But my 3 yr old found them anyway. The old Safari Jeep was a perfect idea for kids to play in. It was truly a wonderful day to spend with my grown son and our little ones.

I live about 45 minutes away from Knoxville and yearly we get memberships to the zoo. I highly recommend doing so if you live in the area! The zoo is smaller than many zoos, but still has a lot to do and see for kids of all ages. They’ve recently renovated their habitat for reptiles and it looks great! They host seasonal events and activities (Boo at the Zoo, dinosaur takeover, etc.). The splash pad is great, the petting zoo and play area are cute, and the food at the restaurants are (expectedly) overpriced, but good quality. They do well in their maintenance and cleanliness and it seems like the animals are well cared for.
Megan F — Google review
We enjoyed our time here. However I found there to be mixed information on the encounters. Which are free and anyone can join so that's awesome. I wanted to do the sloth encounter so we got over to that area quickly and waited and eventually I asked a staff member and she said that they only do encounters on the weekends now.... which doesn't make sense if there's a schedule and you say you're gonna be able to do this. I understand not disturbing the animals so if it's not a good day that's one thing. But to just say oh yeah no we don't do them anymore during the week. Something should be advertised and they probably should also have a sign like wait here for your encounter guide or something. But we did stop back by the otters and guess what! They did that encounter! We got to watch them eat and learn about their personalities. So that was really cool.

Had a great time at Knoxville zoo today. We took advantage of BoA museum on us to get free tickets for every cardholder. Not too crowded, and kids played at splash pad. Loved there. It was fun to watch zoo keeper feeding bat fox with worms.

Its was a pleasant experience, we went to see the red panda they were adorable. It was noon by the time we got there and it was about 90 degrees so most of the animals were hiding or in their enclosures. But still was a wonderful day. Very kid friendly. Dinosaurs are very nice. Peeps Im 30 some and I was having a blast.

The Knoxville Zoo is a great place to spend the morning before the day gets too hot. Even when the animals are too hot, you can still see them indoors as these spaces have glassed viewing areas. My daughter and I spent around 2 1/2 hours viewing the animals and reading about the various conservation programs such as the Red Panda Preservation. Surprisingly, the Dinosaurs at Dawn exhibit was also a favorite and we were impressed by their animatronics. Parking was free and easy. The other visitors seemed to be local parents/grandparents with small children.

I went for the first time over this past weekend with my children who have previously been. I enjoyed myself as did the kids but we didn't get to see all of the animals with it being so busy, but we made the best of it. My favorite part was probably feeding the turtles, they were very cute and took the leaves so gently. We ate at the beatro which was good but pricey. It was a hot day and the mist fans were great. I'd definitely go again!
Brooke C — Google review
So we went today to take my kids to the Zoo bought the whole membership for the entire family which was reasonable priced but as a kid I can remember this being one of the most exciting things we got to do each year. But to my disappointment it's definitely not at all what it used to be. So there's not at all a lot of real animals to see but there's a lot of fake motorized ones😞 I remember being able to ride the Elephants and the Camels and seeing the Rhinos up close and personal but we literally all in all saw about a dozen real animals. And although the membership wasn't a bad price and it's good for a year the prices of drinks and food is beyond ridiculous I mean $4.59 for a Gatorade come on or $5 dollars for an ice cream sandwich not to mention $3.89 for bottled water. Just crazy!!!! It was fun for the younger kids but my 13 year old said it was kinda boring lol... They need to bring back the zoo I remember.... Please

We absolutely love the zoo. The staff are beyond amazing! So informative and polite. The animals are almost always out and about. There is so much for kids to do also! Prices are good and atmosphere is outstanding. Love the misting fans in the summer also!!!

This was an afternoon outing with my wife. I was part of our anniversary week vacation. Lots of animals lots to do. Got to do a lot of walking very enjoyable a must if you have children take them. They get so educated and so many areas. And absolute if you’re in Knoxville.

We love coming to the zoo. We first started our excursions because we were socializing our Service Dog and what better place to introduce distractions? The animals all loved our dog and made the trips more exciting. Now we enjoy coming with family, in particular our little niece and nephews. Well worth the price and time spent. Members get food and gift shop discounts, so that's a plus too!

We had a great time at the Zoo Knoxville. We went with three kids under 5 and three adults on a weekday morning. We did not have a wait to get tickets or enter the zoo. The zoo is very well laid out with easy to navigate paths and signs, with bathrooms / changing rooms always close by. There was something for everyone in our group with fun exhibits and explanations for all the fun and unique animals. We brought in our wagon and alternated from pushing our kids or letting them run along the paths to the next exhibit. The zoo has a variety of animals in exciting enclosures, a petting zoo, splash pads (not open when we went), a kids playground, and lots of photo opportunities. There are many food stands, restaurants with indoor and outdoor eating areas, however many of them were not open when we were visiting. The other unique set of displays in this zoo is their dinosaur exhibits where there are large robotic dinosaurs that move and make noise. My kids really loved those!Overall the zoo took us about 2 hours to complete, which was the perfect time for short - attention spans and we ended right before lunch. I would definitely go again to explore the splash pad and playground areas as well as to see the well cared for animals again.

This was my first visit to the Knoxville Zoo, and I have to say that I was expecting a much better experience than the one I received. I'll start with the low points:The animals seemed...sad. Most of them were sleeping or hiding. So, you don't get to see half of the animals that are advertised. And the ones that you do see (for the most part) seem exhausted and miserable. The glare on some of the exhibits make it nearly impossible to see in when the sun is out. Accessibility appears to be limited in some areas of the Zoo. Lastly, the gift shop isn't even worth visiting in my opinion, there's hardly anything related to the zoo itself. My favorite and what I consider the best part of the zoo was the amphibian and reptiles exhibit. But beware, it can get very hot in there due to the humidity and crowding. So, I would avoid it if you have breathing issues. I really enjoyed it though. They have some cool snakes, lizards, turtles, and frogs. Plus that's where their sloth is located! Loved him. Would have totally stolen him if he wasn't so high up. The Gorillas are also amazing. I could have stood and watched them for hours. They have so much personality. That's about all I have to say.

We were very disappointed in this zoo.Animal enclosures were smaller than most zoos.Giraffes were walking on mostly hard service.Saw several animals that looked sad and needed medical attention. The animals were right up against the interstate with loud semis and motorcycles whizzing by.You could still hear the highway all over the zoo!My wife was so upset about the conditions that we left early about halfway through. They mowing crew was there with their loud zero turn mowers, weedeaters, and blowers going all over the place. The animals were not liking that, and we didn't either.People had to walk through the guys with the loud smokey weedeaters and blowers. The zoo closes at 4pm every day.Maybe they mow after hours?Maybe different landscaping that doesn't need mowed?Bad experience. We won't be coming back here to Knoxville.Zoo is located in a terrible neighborhood surrounded by police cars and guards!Maybe we are just use to other nice, big zoos like Indianapolis and Cincinnati, Tampa, and LA...

My Husband and I went to the Knoxville Zoo this past weekend and it was absolutely amazing! We haven't been in several years and it was worth the wait! The Gibbons were definitely our favorite, super entertaining 😁!

Went to the Knoxville zoo today with my kids. We went up to get our tickets and the girl charged me for my two year old who should have been free. After I corrected that she also charged $5.00 for parking. The lot was so full we had to park over by Muse and we still got charged for parking. So for four of us we paid $80.85. That's kind of steep for a zoo this size. Once inside we realized many of the animals were not outside. Many enclosures had nothing to view and several people were commenting on it. Also couldn't help but notice lots of the concessions stands were closed as well. It's spring break and it was very crowded. My kids rode the train and the merry go round and both were an additional $4 per kid per ride. They did however enjoy both. What animals we were able to see my kids enjoyed. They also loved the dinosaur a lot. The petting zoo was a favorite of the kids as well. I gave three stars because my kids did enjoy the experience. My girl and I were somewhat disappointed and probably had a two star experience. They need more animals and more viewing opportunities for the animals they do have. The kids were entertained and I guess that's all that counts. Being forced to exit through the gift shop with kids felt like a final cash grab. Water for $3.50 in the vending machine with all the water fountains off was frustrating. I would reluctantly recommend a visit but not really enthusiastically. We wished we had a better time but we're just being honest.

We were in the area for a family reunion so it was a last minute decision to go but so glad we did. Hard finding zoo's that are fun and exciting for kids the older they get. But the Knoxville zoo was amazing! I would recommend if your in the area or passing through to stop and go. There were dinosaurs and the grandkids loved them as they moved and made noises there was even information about each one.

My husband and I went for my birthday on 6/18. It was hot and slightly crowded. I enjoyed the animals until I reached the Gorilla's, and boy did that big guy tug at my heart strings. He looked so bored or sad. I'm guessing because it was hot, they couldn't go outside. idk, but his actions made me cry. 🥺 I still recommend this place, especially for small kids.
Gena M — Google review
Animals are well fed. Installations are nice. It only needs more clarity in the directions inside the park. Several times we have to ask for help from the Zoo staff to find out where we were. Nice place to visit.
Angela D — Google review
My wife and I visited here on August 15, 2024 while on a two-day stopover in the Knoxville area during a month-long camping trip. It's really a beautiful and well-laid out zoo, but sadly, and the only reason I don't rate it as 5 stars, is because it's located right beside Interstate 40. The constant noise of semi-trucks whizzing by at 75 mph is certainly not good for the park's "wilderness" ambience, nor for the animal's mental health. Other than that, everything else about the zoo was great. Everything was clean, the staff were all super friendly and professional, and they have some very nice endangered animals under their care, many of who are involved in genetic diversity breeding programs aimed at preventing species extinction. Their red panda and lowland gorilla programs are world-class entities. Parking is free, but the parking lot is very long and narrow. We got there late in the morning on a busy Thursday, so I had to drop my wife off at the entrance, then drive back out to the far end of the lot to find an open space, which was about a quarter mile walk back to the entrance on a hot and humid day.

The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a picturesque, single-lane road that spans over 5.5 miles and winds through the beautiful mountainside. Along the way, visitors can enjoy views of well-preserved farms and take hikes to scenic waterfalls. The route offers an immersive experience into nature's beauty and provides an ideal getaway from city life.
Beautiful place to visit and enjoy the wildlife and see the historic buildings.

Wow! Nature at its best. Scenic drive alongside beautiful creeks. Traffic is usually heavy and the drive being one way, there are delay’s for sure if a bear 🐻 is spotted . Lot of trails on the way and picturesque overlooks. Depending on what you are interested the drive may last from 1 -2 or 4-5 hour. Roaring fork is highly recommended !! Don’t miss it !

This is a must visit attraction in great smoky mountains national park, Tennessee. Recommended for nature lovers. This a very scenic loop one-way drive of around 5.5 mile long and surrounded by amazing nature display. One can see streams, mills, old cabins, etc. The drive may take around 1-2 hours. There are also trails to rainbow and grotto falls and other nature trails located along this drive.

Stunning views, multiple picturesque vista points, serene, feels so close to nature that you don’t want to leave this place. Don’t miss this drive to get the feeling of what Smoky Mountains offers. River streams, Hiking trails, Tall Trees, cloudy peaks… Do whatever you enjoy the most, this place has everything !!

My husband and I went here and just the drive through is absolutely amazing. Lots of trails to take, and a bunch of clifts to see. The creek is an amazing place to stop and cool down

Such a great way to experience The Smoky mountains with minimal hiking/walking. There's a lot of history to see as well. Plenty of pull-off spots at the key points to be able to get out and look around, there are a couple good overlooks, as well as numerous places along the stream.Highly recommend this place at the end of a long day, a nice way to unwind and take in the relaxing scenery.
Jurgis G — Google review
Not enough signs to tell u what trails go where or exactly where to start them and it's extremely hard to find convenient parking which should of been expected. But the scenery makes it all worth it
Jerome P — Google review
Great job making the forest accessible. We've hiked over 100 waterfalls and seen great examples of God's creation, but this one-way driving trail is our first with so many roadside sights. We noticed lots more overweight and older people able to enjoy natural wonders. The road is interesting and narrow, not over-developed, but with numerous pull-offs & parking at all the best spots. California had paved hiking trails this wide (way over-developed for foot traffic). This is more appropriate.

Mount Mitchell State Park
State park
Nature & Parks
Mountains
1,946-acre park on the highest peak east of the Mississippi, with camping, hiking & panoramic views.
I was here in late July and it was so peaceful. The air was cool & misty and there was moss covering the trees and fallen logs. The air was so refreshing to breathe in. There was a small museum packed with information about the environment, wildlife, geology, and history of the area. The man who “discovered” it as being the highest point on this side of the Mississippi River is actually buried near the peak! He died there while conducting scientific research. The info in the museum compared the habitat to that of Canada. There are magical trails to hike and a short, wide paved hike up to the summit. I highly recommend you go and check it out for yourself! I will be back again soon!

One of my favorite state parks. They have an AM radio station you can listen to for park information as you drive through. Fun and informational. The observation tower wasn't all that exciting, but the trails were very nice. The hikes are intense if you aren't used to some elevation, but worth the views.Beautiful drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to get there, but make sure you plan extra time to get there. They have a restaurant, gift shop, and visitors center.
M L — Google review
Note: the mountain is foggy most fall mornings and doesn’t clear up until the afternoon. We visited during a very foggy morning and weren’t able to see the famous 360-degree views. The 10 minute paved hike from the parking area was easy and the summit is still cool to see. There are restrooms, a museum and gift shop, and a concessions stand.
Kevin W — Google review
6,682 feet above sea level! The highest point east of the Mississippi River. Truly a site to behold. The hike from parking is only 300 yards easy peasy. So many sights to see on the Blue Ridge Parkway and learning about Dr. Mitchell, Big Tom and Governor Craig was well worth taking a little time to explore the museum right at the entrance to the trail up
Hop D — Google review
An absolutely wonderful place for an easy hike. Driving the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway to get there was lovely in and of itself, and when you enter the state park (which is FREE), you drive most of the way to the top. They have a nice gift shop, small museum, clean restrooms, and a food area for snacks and drinks. The walking path to the top observation deck is paved, with a moderate incline. We went during a foggy/cloudy day, with low visibility. But it only added to the beauty and mystery. The trails looked like something out of a gothic fairy tale. If I hadn't known I was in North Carolina, I would've thought I was in the Pacific Northwest. A must-see, in any weather.

Great viewing platform at the top of Mt Mitchell, amazing view, informational signage, hiking trails. There is a restaurant at the entrance to the park with amazing views and good food. Near the viewing platform is a museum, gift shop, restrooms and snack bar. Views may be affected by clouds, even when it is clear elsewhere . The Balsam Nature Trail is near the platform. It is listed as an easy trail, but we consider it moderate --lots of rocks, roots and hills.

It's beautiful not just at the top but getting to the top. It definitely makes you feel small.I would recommend checking the state park website and the national forest website for closers at the park and on the blue ridge parkway rd.
Jeffrey Y — Google review
The restaraunt at the top has a variety of dishes with reasonable pricing. In good weather you can drive almost to the very top. The parking lot is large and the walk to the top is 300 yards. Be sure to check out Balsam Fir trail. It is other-worldly feeling. Easy trail.
Kim H — Google review
100% worth the drive up here! Only a very short hike to the peak once you park. The trail is paved with a good amount of elevation gain, but the 360 view is incredible!

This was a fun drive up to Mount Mitchell. They have food and a gift shop at the top. There is a short but elevated walk to the top. The clouds coming over the mountain was cool. Not very busy but it was also raining on and off. There is a small museum with some good info. Tallest mountain east of the Mississippi.

Try to visit the scenic overlook later in the morning or in the afternoon. You will have a better chance of missing the possible morning fog. The path is a little bit steep but take your time and enjoy the view. It is also dog friendly.Once the fog dissipates, it is a beautiful overlookYou can camp within the state park and visit multiple viewpoints near and within the park.

Restaurant to Summit Hike-From the restaurant, look to the left for the trail entrance. Fun, varied trail terrain with some rocky sections, small boulder hurdles, extensive root structure areas, and easy grassy switchbacks. The campround spur section is an interesting shortcut...overall, great little trail, only an hour to the summit, just follow the yellow blazes. It's 20 degrees cooler than asheville, so depending on the season, you may want to prepare some warm gear.

A well-earned state highpoint with beautiful views along the way.I made the drive here as I continued my journey to hike all 50-state highpoints. As usual I started my day early and had the crisp clean air all around me as I got my gear together. Feeling the clouds up at our elevation roll through was an awesome experience. It is otherworldly and makes you feel like you are living out an epic story from a novel. It was a beautiful fall day and I didn't see one person while hiking on the trail to and from the peak. Nothing but the sounds of nature and my fellow companions of animals bustling about in the woods.Much of the trail is exposed to the beautiful vistas surrounding the mountain. You'll certainly work for the summit but is very doable for just about all ranges of hikers.

I absolutely love this place! The trails are absolutely magical, though some can be somewhat challenging. The view from the summit is amazing, especially if you can catch it with minimal clouds.

Mount Mitchell is a beautiful place where you can hike and enjoy enchanted forest. This place is truly beautiful and I enjoyed hiking here with my husband. It's not a difficult hike but in a few places you will have to climb over big boulders. We were able to see some beautiful birds there.

We loved it here. Beautiful views, plenty of moderate to difficult hiking options and a few easy ones too. This is the one place we've been to here in the NC mountains where we felt like we were hiking on a trail in the Pacific Northwest. The smell of pine and spruce in the cool damp air as we walked the short trail near the top was absolute bliss. And the views from the summit were incredible. On a clear cool day, I bet you could see halfway to Charlotte from there. We didn't make it to any of the picnic or camping spots this time, but I bet they would be amazing up here too. It seemed like a lot of stuff (like the restaurant and other park services) were not yet open for the season, but I would imagine they'll be open by the end of this month.

The drive up to Mount Mitchell is absolutely breathtaking! Several Overlooks to stop at to take in the view. Mount Mitchell boasts it's own little museum, restaurant, gift shop, although hours may vary by season. The hike to the summit is relatively easy as it is paved with benches on the way for support. Wonderful place to show off this states beauty.

It's a big, beautiful mountain. The peak is absolutely worth doing, even if you don't have much time; it's a nice drive and a mildly steep, very paved and graded path to the overlook. Informational kiosks abound. Plus snack and gift shops. The ecosystem alone is unique and worth a walk!

Mount Mitchell State Park is like stepping into a postcard of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's got this awesome vibe that makes you feel like you're on top of the world, literally, because it's home to Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. If you're into hiking, this place is a must-do. The trails are scenic and well-kept, winding through forests and mountain views that will take your breath away. When you reach the top, the views are insane—you can see for miles and miles of pure mountain goodness. But even if hiking isn't your thing, there's still plenty to love about this park. The drive up is stunning.Overall, Mount Mitchell State Park is a gem of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Whether you're a nature buff, a photography enthusiast, or just looking for a chill place to hang out, this park has got you covered with its stunning views and mountain vibes.

USA Raft Adventure Resort offers a thrilling experience on the Nolichucky Gorge with expert guides like Walker and Loren. The Lower Nolichucky trip provides a different but fun adventure, with a beautiful primitive campground at Red Banks take out. The friendly and helpful staff, including Dale and Riff, make for an enjoyable stay in accommodations like the Love Shack. While Take Out and One Love were closed during this visit, guests can bring their own supplies for next time.
My wife and I were in town for our anniversary and looking for something exciting to do. The spelunking adventure into Worley's Cave was AWESOME! Andy and Miranda (our guides) were knowledgeable, personable, funny, and so patient during our excursion. We were with another group who had smaller kids and they took their time to pause to point out cave-dwelling wildlife, rock formations, and were mindful of what crystalline formations were still growing to look at but not touch! Fantastic experience - highly recommend!

Such a great trip!I booked a half day rafting the Nolichucky with 7 others. None of us had much prior white water rafting experience, but honestly that made it better. Huge shout out to our guide Sprocket: he was witty, super knowledgeable, and whipped us in to ship shape fast. The whole experience lasted almost 4 hours ans was tons of fun. At the end, the group got to "surf" which involved directing the raft upstream and hang in the little water fall. Beautiful scenery in the smoky mountains and we even saw a bald eagle. Overall I highly recommend this trip

We stayed at the resort for two nights. Dale, Riff and the rest of the staff that we interacted with were friendly and helpful. We loved staying in the Love Shack. We were there on Monday and Tuesday night, so the Take Out and One Love were not open. We brought our own and will check that the next time we are there. We went rafting on the Nolichucky Gorge with USA Raft during our stay. Our guide, Walker, was fantastic. He is a real pro on the river. He and trip leader Loren made the trip exciting and fun. We will definitely go again. We also floated the Lower Nolichucky a couple of times while there. That is a different but fun trip. The Red Banks take out has a nice beach and is a beautiful primative campground.

Absolutely horrible customer service! My group was eligible for a 15% discount for lodging. At the time of my booking, months in advance of the trip, I was not aware of this but became aware a few weeks before the trip. I called and emailed repeatedly trying to get someone to issue a credit and was told that only the office manager, Tiffany could handle this. Tiffany never replied despite direct emails and messages from her employees. Two days before the trip, we were told a credit would be issued and finally thought the issue was resolved. It's now 4 weeks since the trip and no credit was ever issued. I have called 3 times since and finally spoke to Tiffany who was not even remotely understanding about her lack of professionalism and failure to address this the numerous times I had reached out. I was finally issued a store credit good for a year, but no actual refund because that is their "policy." Their "policy" also appears to be to avoid all communication when it isn't to their advantage. Very unprofessional! I feel ripped off. Buyer beware!

USA Raft is truly an amazing place. I can’t express in words how beautiful the Nolichuky Gorge is. You must float the river and experience it yourself. Danny was our guide, his knowledge on the history of the area, the flora & fauna made the trip that much more special. His paddling skills were amazing, he could certainly pick a line! The campground at USA Raft is awesome as well, the Take Out Bar has a great beer selection and good bar food. You might get lucky with good music on the small or large stage!I can’t say enough about this Mountain Gem!Thanks for a wonderful weekend!Rhys

Feeling duped- after reserving and paying way in advance, we were told at check in there’s a band playing both nights and it’s MANDATORY that we pay an additional $30 PER PERSON for the music which we weren’t told about until arriving, did not enjoy, and the noise went on until after midnight BOTH nights. Quiet time was irrelevant-non-existent. If we didn’t pay the extra $60 for two people, we could not stay. This should have been announced during reserving but they waited until our arrival to announce the extra, HIDDEN, MANDATORY fees. Will not be back nor will we recommend. You got our money but you won’t get any more from us. ☹️

This is a campground on the river, lots of options from cabins to tents to trailers.I did the half day gorge trip. water was around 800 cfs, and we had to trail walk around the low water, about 1/2 mile. (surprise!), I enjoyed the trip, and the guide, but carrying the raft up and back to the shack (300 yds uphill) was not fun. They really need some carts for that. When we ran the nolochucky, it, it was really class 3. water was pretty warm. I think they need over 1200 cfs to not walk around the low areas. This is has kind of a hostel vibe, next door is a more refined campground for RVs.

Planned this trip a month ago, long overdue vacation with my wife. We scheduled a 1/2 day rafting trip, for 1:30pm. We both work late nights into early morning so getting up for the 8:30trip would have been a rough indevour. However the wonderful staff worked some magic and got us a group for 10:30am.Our guide Lauren was amazing, personable, knowledgeable and made our trip memorable and safe.At night our "Appalachian concierge" Cory was quick to get us what we needed, helpful, friendly and an all around great guy!We had a couple great evenings at the Take Out Tavern. The food was amazing, the beers ice cold, service was absolutely spot on weather it was to warm our bellies after the wonderful white water or after a few beers. We stayed in one of the domes, the pictures didn't even do it justice to how luxurious it would be. The bathhouse facility and sauna were clean and maintained daily. We had a wonderful surprise of live music by the Dirty Dead. The grounds had this amazing vibe and ambiance, it felt like I came home, it was home, and everyone there was my family.A completely magical vacation, we can not wait to go again. Already looking at the calendars!Thank you to everyone, even if I didn't get your name you were intrical to making it the best vacation, what our souls really needed.

I gotta write an updated review. We’ve had a couple (big) bummers trying to camp here in the last year (really do not recommend the overnight car camping spots; twice our reservation was unavailable upon arrival and the staff seems pretty disinterested in addressing this issue), BUT I had an absolutely lovely experience at the take out bar, and enjoyed just chilling on the property while listening to the band by the river. The river access here is prime. We don’t like the camping experience and still resent that (it used to be one of our favorite spots), but as a day/evening hang out, we like the experience and will probably return. Also, NOLI is a very cool organization that meets at USA Raft for several of their events. We participated in the Blue Ghost Firefly hike this past Friday and really enjoyed it! Highly recommend checking out NOLI and participating in their activities!

Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium is a sprawling 3650-acre nature preserve nestled in the Bays mountains, offering over 40 miles of scenic trails for hiking and mountain biking. The park features a picturesque lake, diverse animal habitats, and a state-of-the-art planetarium at the Nature Center. Visitors can also enjoy an adventure ropes course with zip lining and barge rides. The park provides opportunities for family outings, solo exploration, or leisurely hikes with dogs.
Enjoyed an afternoon at the Bays Mountain Park. The paths throughout the park are paved and clearly marked. The exhibits are clean and the animals have plenty of space. The animals were calm and appeared to be content. I enjoyed a barge ride and saw deer eating lily pads in the water. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I only saw a food truck on site with sandwiches so you may want to bring a cooler with snacks/ lunch. Picnic tables are available outside and the indoor restrooms and gift shop are a short walk from the parking lot. There is a water bottle refill station on site. Some areas are dog friendly, except for the animal exhibits. I did not visit the planetarium due to personal time constraints.

$7/vehicle (more for buses), planetarium is $6/person, children 5 and under free with parent. Nature programs $3/ person or more for a 2-hour tour. Barge rides also cost pp. Beautiful park on a mountain, excellent trails, nice buildings, zip line seems to be a resident contractor business. Serious discounts for military i.d. Wolf pack is fed around 2 pm. Wolves have a nice large compound. Bobcats are also in a nice large commons for the two brothers. Planetarium is small but seems new, seats are reclined, very comfortable. Do not go late, they open 10 min before show time and lock doors at one minute past! On weekends there are food trucks. Membership probably worth it! That includes free planetarium and Barge, iirc. On approach drive, stay left at the fork or you will wind up in the Eastman company's private rec area.

I'm originally from Illinois and have now been to Bays Mountain twice. The first trip was to the planetarium, which was amazing and fun. The second was to tour the animal habitats and the boat ride. Our guides were so informative. They were able to get the wolves to howl, which was so amazing to hear live. The boat tour was wonderful. Our guide told us many things about the habitat and Bays Mountain. Highly recommend a visit.

I had my best visit ever to Bay’s Mountain Park on 7/31/24. I went out there to get away from the Biblical flooding rains in Knoxville. If you’re in a hurry skip to another review.I must say the remodel of their visitor’s center came out beautifully! I was sad to see that the huge Apollo 11 spacecraft model is no longer hanging from the ceiling. Change is tough for me sometimes. 😂If you’re into outer space, the planetarium show is right up your alley and the lady who gives the show is wonderful with a good sense of humor. Nice job Abby! I saw both shows: Appalachian Sky at 2pm and One Sky at 4pm. Both were really interesting and informative but I found the second show to be much more interesting. The visual detail shown by their projection machine is a total wonder for the eyes to feast on. Did you know they do a star watch with telescopes on Saturday nights in the Spring and Fall? I’ll definitely be back in October to see how much I remember from my planetarium lessons! This time of year the park is open until 8pm so I decided to get a 6 mile hike in and take some pictures. I’ve been to Garden Mountain tower on the northwest summit overlooking Holston Army Ordnance plant near Mt. Carmel but I had never been to the tower on the southeast side of the park. It’s a stout hike up there from the parking lot but well worth it on a clear day. The view of Holston and Buffalo Mountains was very nice. The tower isn’t as high up as the other one so the trees could use a little trim job (hint hint).I find Bay’s Mountain to really be an enchanting place. Just the reservoir itself is so pristine, you can’t take a walk around it without stopping several times to admire its beauty. If you can handle the costs, this is an enjoyable place for everyone because there’s a bunch of different things to see. Plus, everyone working there is very helpful and nice. That’s a big plus!

I can not say enough positive things about this place! We had a wonderful day here & it it wasn't such a far drive we would return often. There is so much to do here so plan for a full day! There are animals, the planetarium is super cool, the barge ride is awesome with a lot of history, and the inside of the nature center is very intriguing. What a great job they're doing keeping this park clean too!!

We enjoyed your short visit here and glad the dogs could come along. There are restrictions to where dogs are allowed but we wanted to take a short hike on the lakeside trail. It was $7 for entry. We say a few beaver dams.

Great place to spend with the family! Some areas are under renovation at the moment however still lots to see. And I will say, I wish the birds had larger exhibits. The barge ride is fun and educational however the planetarium is not worth the extra fee.

It was a wonderful day. We hiked, watched, and learned about wolves, investigated & learned about the saved wildlife, we took the barge ride to enjoy and learn more about the area and we loved the planetarium. It was a gr8 day. 💚💙💜

Fabulous spot for day hikes! There are hiking trails, areas to picnic by the lake, a nature center, all kinds of things to check out. You’ll want to see this place if you’re in town!

Absolutely beautiful place to take the family. We saw a show as at the planetarium. I was impressed at how clean and well kept it was. We went on the barge ride, very pleasant, then we enjoyed time when the wolves get fed. The staff were kind and knowledgeable about the animals and local wildlife. Where the exact exhibits were located was a little unclear, I suggest taking a map but we asked for directions and found everything on time without one. Overall wonderful place!!

One of our favorite places for a nature walk. The kids love the barge ride and planetarium.

Park is in the middle of improvement, lots of trees down around the animal areas and gift shop. Hiking trails were well maintained. The adventure course is now closed.Dogs are not allowed in areas with animals.

Beautiful park. Super fun for the boys. Loved seeing all the animals. Beautiful place to walk and sight see. The gift shop was super cute and had more things to sightsee inside. Cute little cave for the kiddos to play in. Can't wait to go again

Fantastic spot to visit with your family. We took in a show at the planetarium, a boat ride on the lake, and experienced some unique animals in their care.

A perfect place to spend the day enjoying the serenity of nature! There are lots of hiking trails and beautiful views.

Great place to visit with the family!! They have a lot of exhibits to enjoy for the small parking/entry fee of $7 for the entire car(not per person) to the park. Additional cost for the barge ride and planetarium, and a small obstacle coarse (I'm not sure if it was open, though).
J W — Google review
Wonderful wonderful place to visit! I went when I was a child and now my daughter has been able to go. The gift shop is also a win win all proceeds go to help the park and animal's there. It is just a wonderful family place good for a day visit.

This place was beautiful! Didn't do any of the hiking trails but definitely a great experience, especially with seeing wolves up close!

Sights & Landmarks
Bristol Motor Speedway is a high-banked, quarter-mile race track that hosts major auto races, amateur driving schools, and daily tours. Visitors can enjoy the "Fan Zone" without needing a race ticket and can explore various events outside the venue. The seating provides great views due to the small track size, offering an intimate racing experience. Additionally, the speedway hosts special events like "Speedway in Lights," featuring beautiful light displays on the track and a Christmas village for dining and local shopping.
Great place to visit even on the off-season. There was coffee and corvettes morning. Got to meet someone who works for the track. This person gave us an amazing morning by letting us drive on the track and signing our names on the wall. Great day!

This is by far the best Nascar Track! This is my 3rd time at the track and it doesn't disappoint. The magnitude of the stadium, the sound and vibrations, it is amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is not a bad seat in the house. There are shuttles and trams that help you get to the track from the campground.
Andrew R — Google review
We went to a race and honestly I didn’t know anything about racing. I did however learn some things and really enjoyed myself. You could see pretty clearly and I feel the seating was better than NFL seating if you enjoy it.The only thing that was bad was that I didn’t know that you would have a lot of uphill walking to do just to get to this speedway. Even leaving left you with a lot of walking uphill. This wouldn’t be an issue if you are in great physical shape or didn’t have small children, however I did have children and was mid pregnancy. I watched a older gentleman also struggle with his cane as well. The race itself was great though.

The Bristol Track is such a Neat Place to see and then enter into the in-field. The "Little Guys" King Midget cars got their chances to run the track and enjoy the day
Buglover 1 — Google review
This is so much nicer than some of the races I've been to! One thing I'll not is it was very known to buy seats at the top because of the view but the only problem was they didn't have any of the concessions open up there. It was a full house so I'm not sure if there was a money issue in justifying having it open but it would have helped. Literally that is my only complaint which isn't bad so I'll definitely be back 🔥

See our experience at Bristol Motor Speedway I made two videos:Video – walking around prerace *** https://youtu.be/Yw8lr-FZoiU ***Video – Part 2 *** https://youtu.be/iaHPih8qg4Y ***I am new to racing but have been fortunate enough to have seen NASCAR races at 5 or 6 different tracks. Bristal was special because it was a small track and felt very intimate. No matter where you sit you can always see all the cars. The race was not crowded which was a surprise to me. There was a wide variety of parking options, and the prices varied a little. We paid 25 dollars and parked about half a mile away. There were a lot of vendors that were selling official NASCAR items as well as bootleg. There was a wide selection of food options as well. My only suggestion is to get there early because some of the lines are long. There was a kids play area where there were 4 or 5 attractions that they could run around in. The thing that was a little rough was the steep walk up to the actual track. Overall, I would say great track and a fantastic NASCAR experience.See our experience at Bristol Motor Speedway I made two videos:Pre-race *** https://youtu.be/Yw8lr-FZoiU ***Race *** https://youtu.be/iaHPih8qg4Y ***

You've got to love car racing to endure this for hours. Hot, noisy ( of course). Crowded. Had good seats to see the event. But watching cars race around lap after lap not my idea of fun! No crashes, a couple of spills. Lots of tire changes. End of story. Getting out of parking area after the race a total nightmare. No organization there! Not for me, Supported the spouse in going, that's all.

First time here was a great experience loved the The beginning with the music, troops, flying overhead and the fireworks. Very professional racetrack and drivers. Would return but not buying concessions was expecting at least the works on a hotdog for $7 was a plain wiener. Overall beautiful place!

Had a great time watching the races and all the stands set up outside the stadium were really cool but I have two major gripes with this place. 1: really not accommodating to disabled people, you can get a go kart to drive you around and they "have elevators" but half the elevators weren't open so we had to walk further to one that was. 2: The employees know NOTHING, there was essentially zero communication between the employees so they parked us super far away from the stadium and claimed there was no disabled parking but when we were walking up we saw plenty of open spots closer, and then when we'd ask an employee in the stadium where anything was they'd have no idea and have to check their handbook and the map. But aside from the employees, me and my dad had such a fun time and will come again.

Really nice track. Easy flow of parking and it’s easy to navigate around the premises. Concessions are pretty fantastic and I was amazed at how clean the bathrooms were. It’s a racetrack. A nice racetrack. Stop by for any event. Recommend it!!!!!!

Saturday Night Race - facility is nice, staff is great, prepare for moderate up-hill walking and lots of it. Racing is good, seats are okay. I'd consider 5 stars but really disappointed in up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get out of Bristol paid parking. Been to multiple NASCAR tracks and never had this exit bottle-neck. All said, I'd probably come back

Nice friendly experience for a truck race. Sadly hardly any vendors open for food, no signs saying who’s open. The persons employed at gates had no clue about the layout of gates ect. We needed up in the wrong place a d walked way down only to find it blocked with a gate dividing the sections. It would have been better if all employees had to walk the entire place twice and they would know real quick which tickets need entrance to which gates.

It's Bristol Baby! Our Corvette club members each made a charity donation, and we got to do nearly 10 high-speed laps around the track...in our own Corvette. What bucket list experience.

Had a great time, although I highly recommend you bring headphones and earplugs. My only complaint is the food leaves a lot to be desired. Not good, but your allowed to bring your own pre-packaged foods , so I will do that next time. Otherwise it was a great night of racing , especially since my favorite driver won.

This track knows how to do an event well. You do not need a ticket for the race to enter their "Fan Zone" so you can enjoy all of the events outside the venue. Inside, there are plenty of concessions, so you do not have to wait in lines for an ungodly amount of time. I thought the prices were reasonable for food considering the situation. The seating was great. Because it is such a small track, you can see everything. Overall, I was impressed by the whole experience.

Had an awesome experience at the race. Just like any other track I wish the prices of the food were more reasonable. I'll go back for sure.

My wife won tickets to the race and it was my first time ever tailgating at a race and everyone was AWESOME. The Parking, Tram, Security, Ticketing, Guides, everyone was top-notch and friendly even though the work was hard. I can't recommend the venue enough. You can BYOB, bring soft bags still enjoy great concessions. Where can you do that nowadays. Great folks in attendance too. You have to experience it for sure. We will be back. Check 'em out-

Came for the speedway in lights. It was pretty awesome. The lights were beautiful, and being on the track was pretty cool. The Christmas village was nice to have a bite to eat and do some local shopping. It was worth the money. I came on a Monday night it was perfect, barely any traffic.

We were fortunate enough to get to experience the night dirt race on April 17, 2022 at Bristol Motor Speedway. We had box seats and VIP access to the garage and pit areas! With that, we did not have to wait in a line. We had the absolute BEST time at this race! Thank you, BLUEGREEN, for this experience! I will never be able to watch a Nascar race from the bleachers after this!🏁 By the way, Kyle Busch was the Bristol Dirt Race Winner that night! 🏁

Tall peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains with a mile-high swinging bridge, museum & picnic areas.
Great adventure to Grandfather Mountain State Park. This park has a suspension bridge between two peaks on the top of the mountain which is a 1 mile up. The views were breathtaking!Grandfather Mountain also has an animal habitat, with some great informative presentations by the animal handlers.

Awesome place to spend the day. Swinging bridge is fun and the trail to the other summit from the parking lot is no joke. Plenty to do and lots of trails for a full day. The zoo is supposed to be good too but that will have to be for next time.

This is a bucket list place! The mile high bridge is so awesome. The views aew amazing. It was foggy the day I was there. We were the only people there on a Monday morning around 9am. That was a big plus too!

Beautiful sights, regardless of which trail you take, some are advanced while others are somewhat relaxed and not as strenuous or demanding. They have a cute gift shop to get souvenirs, they also have a bridge where you can get some incredible views as well.

Visiting the NC mountains (near Banner Elk) should include a trip to Grandfather Mountain to walk across the mile high swinging bridge. Breathtaking views of the mountains along with many hiking trails (some trails warn you to be experienced hikers). There are several animal habitats to view, but on this day they were sleeping. Rangers do give informative talks scheduled throughout the day. There is a cafe and restrooms along with several exhibits to view. Be sure to look through the view master devices across from the cafe to see awesome 3D photos of the mountain.I recommend you arrive early to avoid the crowds. Buying tickets on line is recommended because they can turn you away if they are at capacity. Adult tickets range from $22 to $28 and kids start at $10. To get the AAA discount you have to buy on line. Prices vary during peak season.
Cathie B — Google review
Worth the entrance fee! Military discount if you get tickets before entrance. The views were amazing. We enjoyed the exhibits and small zoo. There is an elevator to the upper layer, in the gift shop, to the swinging bridge. The weather was calm when we were there

Went couple of days after Christmas 2023 and it was awesome! They have a Zoo and Bridge, trails so much to do and we spent hours there.
Janet — Google review
Winding road to get to the top followed by beautiful views. The suspension bridge was safe. There are no guardrails if you climb onto the rocks for a better view, so be careful with young children and those with physical limitations such as disabilities or the elderly. Rock climbing experience not necessary to get to the top of the rock overlooks for the beautiful views. There is a nice gift shop and a mini zoo area

Oh, the views!!Amazing views from what feels like the top of the world. Beautiful nature center and museum. Lots of trails to hike. Beautiful little spots to stop and picnic all the way up the mountain. Plan on spending the whole day ( there is so much to do and see) but, get there here early the bridge and summit get very busy and crowded, not a great way to enjoy it.

It was so much fun going up there. There was so much to see so much to do. I had the pleasure of going with the Girl Scout. Beautiful place to make memories.

First time visiting Grandfather Mountain. The sights were breathtaking. You’re given a CD to listen to as your driving, an informative tour. Once you reach the building at the top, there’s 3 floors. A gift shop on the first, a museum on the second, and on the third is a door leading out to the skybridge. If you walk out on the rocks to the ledge, it’s at your own risks so do be careful.
Kayla H — Google review
Great animal exhibit and amazing views at the top. Make sure you wear good shoes and keep an eye out for the dear.
Angela A — Google review
Go here! Great views, nice hikes, fantastic day for a family outing, date, friends, or even on your own. It's even worth a side-trip, the drive is incredible. The bridge is awesome to see and walk across. The 0.4 mile hike up to it is slightly challenging, but is totally doable as long as you can do stairs. There is a place for bathrooms and water at the top, which is great. Lots of animals to look at in nice enclosures. A fun surprise is that Forrest Gump ran one of the curves there too!

If you are near this place is amazing. Make sure you have good brakes. Drive to the top and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

So many things to explore and enjoy! This place is one of the must visit places in high country. Mile High Swing bridge provides a fantastic view of the Appalachian Mountains. Ice cream from Mildred’s Grill provides a great break time after hiking. Over the weekend, it gets easily crowded so plan ahead and visit early. Hiking provides a lot of scenic views and beautiful nature, so pack your hiking shoes and water.

This place is beautiful. The hike is about 5 hours long round trip. And it’s more difficult than most of the hike. But it’s definitely worth a trip
Tina L — Google review
I'm sure I was here as a kid but I don't remember it, so it was time to go just to make sure.Fantastic views at every turn. The weather can change while you're there so if it's rainy or foggy at the top, try a trail off-peak and then try the bridge again after a while. The Grandmother View is a great one, and if you dare to ascend the ladder and the rope you'll see some spectacular views of the hanging bridge and the Lynn Cove viaduct from one location.Definitely dress in layers; particularly when the seasons start to change.Parking was easy for us on a Monday at 11:00 am. I'm sure it's busier mid-season.
David H — Google review
Visited during a long weekend and hence the place was quite crowded. However, the staff were really helpful. The place is really beautiful. There are trails if you want to walk or oi can drive until the hanging bridge. The animal habitats are an added benefits. Spotting the birds native to the place is also another thing you could do. In short, it’s a wonderful place to visit. The ticket was $30 per person and I would say it was worth it.

Tweetsie Railroad is a family-friendly park that offers train rides, amusement park attractions, live shows, and a petting zoo. Visitors can ride on the chair lift and enjoy various activities such as visiting Santa's gingerbread house or making s'mores at the station. During Christmas time, the train is adorned with magical lights that make for an enchanting experience. One downside to visiting during this time is the limited food options available on site with only one restaurant serving hot dogs or pizza.
Just created a new Christmas family tradition! Tweetsie Railroad is a great way to cap a winter weekend in Boone! We loved the train and the ride through the lights... but were very surprised and excited by all the other activities to do during our visit! There are fun rides, shops, a carroling show, and plenty of visits to do, like gingerbread men and of course Santa! Fun experience, we look forward to many trips for years to come!

We visited Tweetsie for the first times since childhood. It was fun but overpriced. $60 per adult! Light shows were okay, train ride was fun, stores were nice, and lots of photo opportunities. It was a group activity, otherwise I probably wouldn’t go since I don’t have children. Dress warm for winter rides. Train cars are open air.

A great place for families, especially with younger children! Much more affordable and family friendly than other, larger amusement parks.Parking is FREE, it isn't too terribly busy unless a major holiday, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. We visit here from Florida once or twice each year and our now 5 year old daughter loves it. No real thrill rides or super fast, looping roller coasters here, just good, old fashioned fun with live shows and delicious fudge and a calm, laid back vibe.

Had a great trip to Tweetsie Railroad today. It has great rides and entertainment for younger kids and the adults in our group had a great time too. Would like to brag especially on the young man working the swings at the top. Thanks to him I was able to let my special needs child actually successfully ride the swings, and he really put us at ease about it. Overall a great trip, definitely recommend for small kids and definitely recommend parents with special needs children to give it a try! Also my pics are the view from the Ferris wheel.

My 9 yr old was overwhelmed with excitement! I must say I was too. I recommend a 5pm or 6pm train ride so you can see everything before or after the train ride. There was so much to see!!! We went in December and had a WONDERFUL time!!! Make sure your phone is fully charged because you will take a lot of photos! Tickets are a bit pricey.

What a neat little theme park! Visited with my girlfriend - there are lots of things to do for people of all ages! We were very impressed with all the rides and attractions, and spent most of our day enjoying those. A very good variety of rides from multiple time periods! The small zoo was a neat experience as well, with goats, deer, emus, and some donkeys and mules. The train ride was great as well, very well done. I was also impressed with the pricing of concessions - very reasonable compared to most amusement parks!

Visited with my granddaughter on a school field trip day. Great place for kids up to 10 years old or so. Coal fired steam engines were a really cool piece of history. Rides were generally of the state fair variety for youngsters. Grand daughter approved!

What an amazing park for kiddos!! (And adults who love riding authentic steam-powered trains!) Our kids loved the big train (and the live show outside the train) the chair lift, and the mouse mine train at the top of the mountain. They had a lot of fun petting and feeding the animals at the petting zoo and riding the "Barrels of fun" coaster. The Fourth of July fireworks were amazing as they echoed through the mountains. We had such a fun time; hope to be back at Tweetsie next year!

What a fun experience for the whole family. We have been here in the past and loved it. The train ride is fun and the lights are beautiful. We loved the smores over the fire, and the blizzard was awesome. The park was clean and all the staff were super friendly. If in the area you too should make this a Christmas tradition.

Tweetsie is a must must must. Our daughter is two, and we came here for her second birthday and she loved it so much we got season passes and we have already been back twice. Just a great experience overall. Train is wonderful. Food is good. Not everything is to outrageously priced, friendly staff and everything is in close proximity. Great fun! Will be back again.

I’m not sure how this place can have anything other than 5 stars?! The staff are beyond friendly and helpful, the park is laid out beautifully and the pricing is right in line with similar size theme parks. The park has plenty of restrooms, parking, food options and extremely clean! We will definitely be making it back soon for another fun family outing!

Great little park. Very few lines. Great rides for the kids. Best fudge and chocolates! Bring some snacks and water, they allow it. Sit on the right side of train car 3 or 4 for the best view if the show.

We love tweetsie Railroad. Have gone during Thomas and on a regular day. The only downside is the price. It is a little expensive. However, you can easily spend the entire day here between the shows and the rides. They don’t check your bag so we always bring drinks, snacks, and some sandwiches in. The staff has always been extremely nice and the staff who are in the shows, and on the train ride are always so energetic and funny.

This is a cute family park with a lot of fairground type rides. We watched two of the shows and they were good. The train ride was fun. They also have a small animal park. Overall there isn't a ton to do here and it is definitely geared towards families and younger kids. We only stayed for three hours. For two adults we paid $132, which I thought was very steep and not worth the value.
Will G — Google review
I wish I could rate this higher because you can tell there's a lot of history here and I love trains, but I can't. It was a fun experience but I just don't think the price lined up with what you got. The train ride was cool. The train show was a bit cheesy which is to be expected. It was fun riding the ski lift. I thought the quality of their gift shop items were decent. I would have given a 5 star if one of the train actors didn't say one of the vulgar viral phrases going on right now "hawk tuah, spit on that thang". I thought that was very distasteful. We went on the train twice. The last one we did was the last ride of the day. It was evident that the young college age, summer job actors, were just trying to do things to make each other laugh which, when you are paying $60 per person, you would hope they would put on a better show.
Joe N — Google review
Lots of fun for the family. Younger kids especially enjoy it because there is plenty to do for younger children. However you should plan to eat either before arrive or pack your lunch as it can get very expensive if you eat in the park. A corn dog itself is 4$. And the kids box meal is $18 and comes with a small plastic lunchbox keepsake. The rides aren't really high thrill but are more akin to a county fair. Still a fun experience even if it's nothing like it was in the 80s-90s
David B — Google review
Our toddler had a blast! They have a decent amount of littler children rides, as well as some for older kiddos. Ride lines were short, not sure how much of that was because of the day we went. The animals at the top were also a hit. It’s a smallish theme park, we were only there for 2-3 hrs. It’s not a full day commitment like a FL Disney park.

Well worth the price of admission. A lot of memorabilia from the Andy Griffith show & movies he was in during his career. Admission is around $10 per person & open 7 days a week. We visited early in the morning & there was a small group of people there at the time. Takes about an hour to see all the exhibits.

I think it was 8 dollars to get In per person which isn't too bad. I expected the museum to be bigger honestly but you did learn quite a bit about his life. Giving it 4 stars because it's kinda confusing on how to get there from the parking lot. Also the sidewalks are slippery even without rain so be careful.

Perhaps the number one thing to do in Mount Airy and we really enjoyed it. Less than an hour to tour through this small museum, watching the clips from movies and TV shows, viewing the exhibits and reading through the explanations of all the memorabilia. Lots to see!I think it's best to come early just after they open as it's not a very large space and it does get crowded. And don't miss the Siamese Twins Museum across the street - there is a combined admission.

I enjoyed this museum. Should have been a little bigger. Great price of about $8 per person. Loved what I saw but the layout could have been a little better. Good walkways for handicapped individuals. Love Andy so I loved seeing this museum devoted to him. Also went to the gas station and the jail. Great experience that I would do again.

I love this museum. It was not very expensive and had a steady stream of customers but not crowded. Memorabilia from Andy’s life and many nice items to purchase at the gift counter.

Great walk through the shows history. It was also nice to learn more in depth things about the cast. The items in the museum are well kept. There are numerous displays.

Take a step back into Mayberry. You'll find lots to do in the town where Andy Griffith grew up in. The museum highlights his entire career. We really enjoyed it.

A tremendous tribute to Andy Griffith. Plenty to see, and the admission price was fair.If you're an Andy fan, you definitely want to visit!

My son gifted me with a trip to Mayberry for Mother's Day! We stayed at 711 East Haymore Andy's childhood home for the weekend. The museum was very well organized and had actual clothing worn by the Stars of the show. The cost to get in is very reasonable at $8 and change. Be sure and stop by and take your picture with Andy and Opie's statue out front!

Nice tribute to Andy and the show, so much history, did you know Don Knotts won 6 Emmy's for his role? make sure you get the combo pass and visit the newly opened Siamese Twins museum.

The Andy Griffith Museum is a small, but extremely well done museum dedicated to the life of Andy Griffith. It includes many artifacts from his childhood through his adult career. Some are more esoteric like a year book from when he was a music/drama teacher in the local high school. There are lots of things from his movies, Matlock, The Andy Griffith show, and his musical career. It is a relatively small space but one of the better organized and presented displays we have visited. It was under $10 a person when we visited. There was a steady stream of people for a Tuesday afternoon but it wasn’t crowded. There is a second exhibit area down the stairs in another building (The Surry Arts Council) which focuses more on the town and other characters including the career of Betty Lynn who played Thelma Lou on the show.

Small museum packed with information regarding Andy Griffith’s life. So much lovely memorabilia from Andy’s movies & the Andy Griffith Show. There is free parking in the lot next to the museum and theater.

Took a day trip to Mount Airy & we just had to visit the Andy Griffith Museum. As children we loved his show so this was a must for my husband and myself. We made a day of it and went out to eat & enjoyed downtown Mount Airy.

Whats not to love about Mayberry! To walk in and see about how and where Andy Griffith grew up and made his way to the big screen is interesting and gives a whole new meaning to our small town. This is Andy's home town and you will see how much this played into the writing of the show. There is also a museum below with more information on the town itself. Small museum but packed with information.

Pilot Mountain State Park
State park
Nature & Parks
Hiking & rock climbing on iconic, 2,400-ft. Pilot Mountain with a separate riverfront area.
Lovely trail and easy to follow summit look outs. Beautiful views though you can still see some of the damage from the fire.Beware the peak loop if you are not good at stairs. While it is technically a "trail" it's almost exclusively stairs and some of them are quite large (some steps were higher than my knees and I needed help up)

Amazing! Great hike & gorgeous views. Already want to go back, especially in the fall. This was recommended & did not disappoint. It’s a nice hike. Very easy & mild climb. We parked at the top, but if you want a longer trek, park at the lower parking lot & hike up. It was perfect weather & temp. Bathrooms are nice & clean too. Not too many people on a Saturday. I feel so refreshed after being surrounded by nature & breathing the fresh air. There were families with younger kids & dogs too so it’s definitely family friendly. We saw a few groups of rock climbers…pretty cool to watch! The photos & videos will speak for themselves.

A great state park in the foothills of the Blue Rich Mountains. Pilot Mountain is truly impressive. You can drive up the neighboring mountain to the summit. There is a parking lot at the top and there are numerous viewing platforms for impressive photos. At the same time, Pilot Mountain is a paradise for hikers and climbers and you can go on great tours on the many hiking trails.

We parked at the bottom of the mountain at the visitors center and began our hike up to the top following the blue trail markers. The sign at the bottom said it was 3.5 miles each way. My watch showed that was pretty darn close, since our round trip was approximately that. It's a good hike up to the top. Some windy trails, but not too difficult overall. Some steeper elevations at times. But it was a nice, quiet hike, as it appears that most people just like to drive up to the top, park, take pictures and then drive back down. That made the trails less populated for us, which was nice. The views from the top (and close to the top) are gorgeous. I loved the signage about tyke surrounding areas and the birds to keep an eye out for.Ultimately, always a great experience. I love that they have bathrooms at the bottom and the top of the mountain and a water filtration device at the bottom now. Nice touch for all of us thirsty hikers!!

Nice park with great views. It can get crowded on weekends, as you would imagine. There are many hiking trails of varying difficulties. The hike along Pilot Knob is under a mile, fairly easy, and has nice views of the surrounding area. There is camping although I haven't camped here yet.Looking forward to visiting again.

The pilot mountain is such a unique structure to have formed naturally and has an aura of its own. There are various hiking options to the mountain and for those who do not want to hike much, can also drive up to the parking available near the summit. The views from the top are breathtaking and if you happen to do the little pinnacle trail around the summit, you get to have a 360 degree view of the valleys with the beautiful rock formations and the well preserved flora and fauna on the top. Even the air around the mountain feels different, it’s just so serene and pristine! I had an incredible experience visiting this place.

Amazing place! I totally recommend stopping here if you’re traveling through! We drove up to the parking lot at the top of the mountain just in time for sunset, and it was well worth it! It was so gorgeous I didn’t want to leave! There’s also a picnic area, several overlooks and trails, it’s just an incredible 360 degree view even from the parking lot!

Nice park to walk in. The trail around the knob is an easy, well-worn path. There are a handful of steps leading to the wraparound. Once you reach the split, you walk either direction around the knob ending back at the split to backtrack to the parking lot.The nicest thing about this trail are the overhangs. On the hottest days, it feels like an air-conditioned breeze blowing through them. We have found the first couple clockwise to be great spots to grab a bite and relax. Just always take out what you bring in

My family and I absolutely loved this park. We hiked to the top from the visitor's center at the very bottom. I'm glad that we did that for our first time. It gave us a pretty good sense of accomplishment when we completed the trail. The walk around the Pilot's Knob is definitely the best part of the hike. Our personal highlight was a visit from a Peregrine Falcon while we were snacking and resting in the shade. This was our 5th state park, and it was far cooler than I thought it was going to be.For those who don't want to do a big hike, you can drive close to the top. There are very easily accessible views from the top parking lot, and the Pilot's Knob loop is not far either. The visitor center has a nice little shop, and there was a friendly park ranger who told us all about a few birds we saw on the trail. We loved this park and hope to visit again soon. Just be aware that the hike from the bottom near the visitor center is quite a haul.

Pilot Mountain State Park is a stunning destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The park’s iconic, towering peak offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, making it a perfect spot for hiking, photography, or simply enjoying the beauty of North Carolina's natural scenery. The trails are well-maintained and cater to a variety of skill levels, with options for both casual walkers and more experienced hikers. One of the highlights is the Jomeokee Trail, which circles around the summit and provides incredible panoramic views. The Little Pinnacle Overlook is another must-see spot, offering one of the best vantage points in the park. For those who enjoy rock climbing, Pilot Mountain also provides challenging routes with rewarding views at the top.The park is well-equipped with amenities, including picnic areas, a visitor center, and camping facilities for those looking to extend their stay. Whether you're planning a day trip or a weekend getaway, Pilot Mountain State Park offers a peaceful escape into nature, rich with opportunities for adventure and relaxation. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable outdoor experience!

While kind of looking out of place in a relatively flat landscape, Pilot Mountain is a beautiful natural wonder. It's a free park to visit and once you make the long, snaking drive to the top you will be greeted with a stunning view of central North Carolina. While handicap accessible, it is a bit of a hike so be prepared. And have good brakes for the drive back down!

Such a nice place and longgggg hiking trails. Ended up trekking about 8 miles round trip up and down the mountain. Not for the weak but you can drive up to the top of you choose. Also have drinking fountains and bathrooms at the top. Amazing view even on the top part of the trail before you get to the top. Mostly up hill hiking but went down twice as fast on the way down. Nicely cleared trail as well.

Beautiful area and an easy drive. The mountain that you view from is so quiet at the top. You don't get to climb or drive on Pilot Mtn. There used to be stairs, but those are no longer accessible. The Visitor Center is new with a few exhibits and nice facilities.

Wonderful place to hike with family and friends. There are many trail heads. Some are easy and some are strenuous. You can choose the route you would like to. We hiked grind stone trail ( blue circle) and went around the pilot knob( red square) and returned through yellow circle( 3 bears gully) which finally connects to grind stone trail. It was worth the half day of hike. The view is beautiful up there. We met a 84 years lady who was so energetic and said she hikes the knob every Sunday. God bless her with many more years of energy. There are river side trails which are easy to do with small kids. We will do that next time. Totally, this place is a must go.

It's absolutely stunning. Has hiking trails and bathrooms. If you're short on time, no problem, just drive up, take a snap, and be on your way.

A beautiful place to visit year round. Folks mostly prefer to hike around the trails but it's a long way to the top. A nice winding road to the top which is more than a mile long. There is a gate at the entrance which is closed when the parking lot at the top is full, you may have to wait roughly for an hour near visitor center. Visitor center is good stop before or after visit to the top of mountain. It has few things on display and a store to shop for memorabilia, staff is kind and helpful even though they get asked about same things over again. Facilities at top of mountain and near visitor center is decent.

The capital building rises majestically against the skyline, a stunning testament to architectural brilliance. Every detail, from the intricately carved facades to the ornate columns, reflects the exquisite artistry and skilled craftsmanship that went into its design. The sunlight dances off its polished surfaces, illuminating the elegant dome and stately entrances. Its grandeur evokes a sense of awe, capturing the heart and imagination of all who gaze upon it!

The dome can be seen as you pass by on the highway, but do yourself a favor and get off the highway to check it out. It’s really beautiful! My beautiful mother is in the photo, she loves this place, especially in the summertime!

Small, but attractive building that is worthwhile seeing. Tours are brief and must be scheduled a day in advance, so be mindful of that if you plan a visit and want to be escorted. Self guided tours are available as well and you can observe the House and Senate when they are in session. Helpful and courteous employees.

What an impressive building - the 23 carat gold leafed done is perfect in the sunlight. And the view of the river in front sets it off well. Visit the Archives/Museum ( their gift shop has terrific articles and food made in WV)

The Gold Dome is iconic! I spotted it from miles away when driving in, and seeing it up close was very cool. Even in cloudy weather, it shone very brightly, as gold does. Seeing it up close was what really did it justice, like Jim could tell you (WV pun). Very much a stop and visit, cheers.

Beautiful building and grounds. Came an hour before closing time on a weeknight, and hardly anybody was present. Got to explore and learn pretty much by ourselves.
J. G — Google review
Parking and then finding a way into the capitol was not fun. Many entrances were closed to construction or security when we visited. Finally inside, we join a tour group already started. I've seen many incredible capitols (Mississippi for example) and WV just rubbed me the wrong way. It's the 5th(?) capitol built in WV and very, very "high-end" with imported crystal chandeliers from the Czech republic and millions of dollars worth of marble. For all that it feels like an empty grand ballroom, more functional than lovely. A very expensive monument for a part-time legislature.
Gary K — Google review
The Capitol complex and the surrounding monuments are spectacular. However, if you travel to the Capitol via the West Virginia turnpike, be prepared for West Virginia’s legalized highway robbery. There are two separate toll stops within 40 miles of each other that rip you off at $4.25 a pop ($8.50 total). With the cost of gas being what it is, this is outrageous and enough of a deterrent for me to forgo stopping anywhere else in West Virginia, and hence preventing any of the Charlatans that occupy that gold-plated Capitol getting another dime out of my pocket. I am usually not this fired up by highway construction or delays, but this was nothing but a ripoff. Attached are a few pics taken at the WV Capitol that you won’t see on their website.
Brandon B — Google review
I visited on a Saturday, so parking was easy and there weren't a lot of people around. The building is very nice, but the rotunda was off-limits due to some construction.

Beautiful place and wasn’t crowded. Got to meet Riley Moore the state treasurer and was friendly and helpful. They have parking meters close but so it isn’t to far of a walk especially for small children.

The West Virginia capitol building nice inside - marble walls and floors. Out front, the stairs lead you to the river. Also on the property is a memorial for soldiers of the civil war, WWI and WWII, Vietnam, etc. Lastly, the capital museum is located on the same plot of land.

Cultural center
Tamarack Marketplace is a vast cultural center located in Beckley, West Virginia. The unique crown-shaped building houses fine art galleries, shops selling West Virginia handicrafts and regional culinary creations, a theater, conference center, artisan workspaces, and hands-on classes. Visitors can explore glass, carvings, and artwork for sale while enjoying quick-serve dining options at the food court-style eating area.
We decided to visit the marketplace out of curiosity and looking for things to do. The fall foliage added to the picturesque marketplace building. It was welcoming, clean, well organized on both sides of the continuous main aisle with artisans wares on both sides with no walls in between. Many different displays of items available from, Pottery, Carvings, Woodworking, Inlays, Glass Blowers (actually making the glass figurines onsite), Quilts, Art, Stone clocks, Pictures and many other things. Of course there was a really good food court not typical, one where you would get in line, order, pay then sit and then food runners that got your food for you. The quality of the products appears to be really high. However, prices were in the range of do you really, really want it, then you'd probably buy whatever it was that you were looking at. And Yes we did do it....lol We enjoyed ourselves with the eye candy of looking at very nice products. So if you're in the area and looking something to do you might like it too. Enjoy.

Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley is a true treasure. The assortment of handcrafted products is genuinely outstanding with each piece showcasing unique patterns and imaginative touches. Each item reflects the craftsmen' passion and talent. The selection is wonderful, with a pleasant set of handcrafted quilts, quilted bags for children to hold books and crayons, elegant glass art, beautifully created wooden items, natural honey, and much more. The environment is warm and welcoming, and the staff are particularly helpful and kind. It's an unforgettable experience that highlights West Virginia's originality and artistic ability. I highly recommend a visit!

We spent the night locally and visited first thing the next morning. It was pretty close to when they first opened, so it wasn't very busy at this time. The building is set up in a circle. It is a pretty neat layout. There are different sections in the building for wood arts, glass, pottery, and so on. There were very few craftsmen there that day, so we didn't get to see anything being made, but you can look through windows to see what's going on. Lots to see and lots to buy. Prices range from medium to high, but taking into consideration the items are hand-made, it is to be expected. We probably stayed about an hour. There are restrooms and a full service restaurant there as well. We are glad we stopped in.

Beautiful art by local artists, local food vendors as well. Super clean and fun rest stop for us from a long drive. They had dog bowls outside for furry friends who needed a break too. The glass maker has a spot where you can make glass ornaments and bowls for a small price. The building is set up in a circle so you don’t have to double back which I thought was helpful as well. I recommend this place as the view is nice as well.

For an off-the-highway pit stop, Tamarack has a most of what you need and a lot of what you want. The gas station is closed right now which is inconvenience, but other than that it's definitely full-featured including meals, bathrooms, outdoor entertainment for smaller children, and shopping for local and non-local items from artwork to foodstuffs. The most significant drawback is the line to order food. Perhaps this is primarily an issue on the weekend, but on a Saturday in July expect long lines to order and long waits to receive your food.Definitely worth the stop if you're trip has any planned breaks within +/- 45 minutes from Tamarack - tough it out and go the extra distance to visit or stop early and adjust your trip for longer segment post-visit.

The New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia is a marvel that makes the long drive absolutely worthwhile. The view of this iconic steel arch bridge, one of the longest and highest globally, is simply breathtaking as it spans the river gorge. Planning a visit to this park is highly recommended for anyone seeking awe-inspiring sights and a sense of grandeur. The bridge's sheer scale against the backdrop of the gorge is a sight to behold. The park allows visitors to tailor their experience based on personal interests, making it an ideal destination for both engineering enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

My wife and I just attended the annual New River Gorge Bridge Day for the second time. I have to admit after 44 years of doing these bridge days they do have the process down pretty well. This is where from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. they literally shut down one side of the bridge and allow people to walk across and look directly down into the New River gorge. Debbie and I took the shuttle (multiple school buses and pick up locations) which cost $5 each. If you try to park on your own and don't get there at least 2 hours early you could be a half mile walk to get to the bridge. Anyway this bridge road bed is just under 900 ft above the water to the river below. Definitely the highlight of doing this is watching the people base jump from both the edge of the roadway and a platform lift that takes them up an additional 20+ feet. There's a fairly long walk up the road as you approach a bridge which is closed on both sides and approximately 200 vendors of all types there. Needless to say this day is very popular so expect large crowds even if you go early like we did.

One of the newer National Parks with areas to view the New River Gorge Bridge. Structure of the bridge can be seen from lower roads. Rivers and scenery are beautiful from the observation points. I don't advise you to go to the lower viewing deck if steps bother you because there are a lot!

Was there on "Bridge Day 2024" It was a fun event to see and a lot of friendly people. I don't think I saw a single act of aggression, that is something to say for an event with tens of thousands. It does involve a lot of walking, I bet we parked our car about 1.5 miles away.

Exploring New River Gorge was a fantastic experience! We drove around the bridge and checked out all the viewpoints, each offering a unique and stunning angle of the gorge and bridge. A delightful detour even led us to a little turtle on the road, basking in the sunshine. Truly a memorable trip!

The New River Gorge Bridge is a beautiful, extremely impressive steel arch bridge that’s honestly a feat of human engineering! The arch is over 1,700 feet long and it was the world’s longest single-span arch bridge for over 25 years! It still is the world’s longest outside of China! That means when you see this thing, it is HUGE. Well worth the stop if you happen to be driving anywhere near this area - in fact, such an impressive piece of architecture, I would drive well over and hour to see it and explore the trails around it.This is a beautiful area of West Virginia with mountains and rivers everywhere, and the best part about it is it’s free! So why not stop and see the bridge? It’s one thing driving over it - you really can’t even see that much. It’s a whole different experience if you walk one of the short trails to the vantage points overlooking the bridge. Make the extra effort and do it because you’ll be very happy you did!

I was driving past the area anyway and decided to stop. I'm glad I did. This is a very nice park. The welcome center is impressive, as are the grounds and walkway to see the bridge. There is plenty of parking as well. The bridge itself is hard to believe if you aren't seeing it in person. Pictures really don't do it justice, kind of like my experience at Hoover Dam. I recommend stopping here if you are in the area or make it part of your travel plans.

I grew up in WV but only drive over the bridge once, never actually seeing it. It was a foggy and rainy Easter and my daughters and I decided to drive to the base on our way back to VA. It’s a winding one way road but the views are breathtaking. I think the fog only added to its beauty!

Visiting the New River Gorge Bridge was an experience I won’t soon forget. The bridge itself, an architectural masterpiece, stretches majestically across the vast expanse of the gorge, offering unparalleled views of the river and surrounding wilderness. The engineering behind this enormous steel arch is as impressive as its visual impact, making it a highlight for both history buffs and engineering enthusiasts. The viewpoint from the bridge provides some of the most stunning panoramas of the New River Gorge, especially during the fall when the foliage bursts into vibrant colors. The area's natural beauty is complemented by the serene atmosphere and the gentle sounds of nature, creating a perfect backdrop for both relaxation and photography.Additionally, the local guides and informational displays at the nearby visitor center enriched my understanding of the area's history and the bridge's construction, enhancing my overall experience. The friendly staff and well-organized facilities made the visit smooth and enjoyable.Overall, the New River Gorge Bridge is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to appreciate one of America’s great landscapes and engineering feats. It’s an ideal spot for families, photographers, and adventurers alike. A truly memorable day out!

Bridge Day is always amazing! The weather was absolutely perfect. The vendors did a great job. Great food & fun local gifts all over the place. I drove up from Atlanta for this & it's my 2nd time going. Watching people get shot off the bridge on the catapult is both hilarious & terrifying all at once. Kudos to the jumpers!

Beautiful place. Great hike with excellent views! Definitely gonna get your steps in and heart rate up. The squeeze part is a little scary 😅 but so worth it!

Gorgeous bridge across the New River Gorge bridgeThe bridge is a treat to drive over (shortening a formerly 45+ min commute to a minute) and is a great to look at with its classic rusty-facade.I’d highly recommend the bridge walk tour, which lasts around 2 hours across the full 3000 ft of the bridge. Our tour guide Scott was both extremely knowledgeable and humorous and the tour went by quickly! The tour costs >$80 per person which is pricy but it’s the only way to walk across the bridge.

I would give extra stars if I could! This is just an amazing structure to see and visit. I love the view from any direction! It's amazing to see from the various views. Stop at the national park. There is a great view from the bridge at the bottom, well when it is not foggy out! Adventure on the gorge has a beautiful viewing area! The structure stands almost 900 ft in the air. There are many things to do in the area to enjoy the view of the bridge. Enjoy it from the top or the bottom. Take a plane ride or take a boat ride. Anyway you will love this amazing structure!

Absolutely gorgeous from every single angle. Didn't realize how big this park was (50 miles up and down). Definitely plans for a 2-3 day trip if you want to see all of it.

The New River Gorge Bridge is an architectural marvel and a must-visit landmark! Spanning the breathtaking New River Gorge, it offers stunning panoramic views that are truly unparalleled. Whether you're driving across or hiking below, the experience is awe-inspiring. The bridge's impressive design and towering height make it a perfect spot for photography and sightseeing. Don't miss the annual Bridge Day event, where you can witness thrilling base jumps and rappels. The New River Gorge Bridge combines natural beauty with engineering brilliance, making it an unforgettable destination!

We visited last year in early November. It was stunning and beautiful - we stopped at the visitors center and walked down the steps to an incredible view of the bridge. The ranger was very easy going and helpful. We loved the area so much we are moving there in a couple of weeks!

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, a former mental hospital in Weston, offers guided tours of its massive 150-year-old facility. The main building, made of hand-cut sandstone and stretching nearly a quarter mile, is the largest hand-cut stone building in the country. Various tours are available throughout the summer and fall months, including ghost tours and an overnight stay option. The asylum also hosts festivals and family-friendly events.
I've been wanting to go here for years after hearing so many interesting stories, and was glad I finally got to go!We did the Criminally Insane tour which gave quite a bit of info I didn't already know. Savannah, our tour guide, was great! Very friendly and knowledgeable. The place is definitely more of a history visit during the day, but man I hope I can visit again during Halloween one year!

We came here for a mid afternoon tour. It was all 4 flights and the medical center and I couldn't recommend it more. There's spots where it doesn't seem as bad as it's normally portrayed. Our tour guide, John, was fantastic during the 90 minute tour. He grew up in the area and had a vast amount of knowledge about the place. Not necessarily what you would read from a book. If you happen to get John you will be very lucky. The middle parts have slowly been restored but the wings have been left unchanged largely . Very interested in coming back for a evening or overnight tour

Absolutely loved this place and will definitely come back again. Ticket process is very easy, tix can be purchased on site at the tent or at computer kiosks for different time slots. We did the the 4 Floors + 1st Floor of Medical Center Tour (90 minutes). The tour was excellent and our tour guide, Colin, was very funny and super knowledgable on the history - made the tour that much more interesting. They did an incredible job recreating the different hospital rooms and wings and the museum where you can free-roam at the end of tour is vast and contains so much historical information, we could have spent the whole day just there. Definitely looking forward to visiting again.

We did the 90 min VIP tour that took us to all the floors. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and informative. This tour is only offered on Wed and it has a great mix of history, architecture and paranormal. I liked the old parts of the asylum much more than the newer renovated parts, as they had an eerie feel to them. I do recommend taking the early tour (12:30pm) if you can. Our was 3:30-5:00pm and by then this little town is pretty much closed.

This place is pretty cool and has a lot of activity. I was touched several times on the 3rd floor after asking if anyone would like candy and Coca Cola. It felt like I was stuck in the back with a sewing needle in the criminally insane ward, heard shuffling feet behind me in the geriatric ward, my friend was talking to the little girl in the room with all the toys via her EMF reader, and few more experiences. Didn’t get to see the creeper though even after I went in his room. A must visit if you like paranormal experiences. Remember to walk quietly and don’t speak unless you’re trying to communicate. The staff was great too, very knowledgeable and helpful. Please listen to them closely so you know what and where the latest activity is.

We were looking for an interesting October activity. We decided to come to the lunatic asylum as a pre-halloween destination. It was well worth the drive. There were several different tours we could have selected from. They even have night time flashlight paranormal tours. The tours are all very reasonably priced and very informative. We selected the 45-minute history tour. The tour included the first floor and was a general history tour of the asylum. We did consider going and doing the criminally insane tour. Although we did not take the 90 minute tour, I am sure it was even better than the 45-minute tour. If you are looking for a fun October activity, this is definitely your destination.Follow us for more great reviews!™

Great experience. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very knowledgeable about events and history of the building and even some patients. Alyssa is a great tour guide and did a wonderful job explaining the vast history while we explored. We will return!

We stumbled upon this place while visiting another venue. On the way back we were able to grab a tour and it was great. It was awesome seeing inside and hearing about the facilities history. Lindsay did a great job giving the tour. It’s nice that the money raised goes back into fixing up the buildings.

Very interesting, eerie experience. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helped us sink into the history of this incredible building. Amazing that such beautiful architecture can house such a niché sect of pain, though I suppose there was plenty of healing as well. Definitely recommend a visit, because there is a lot going on here. Would be interested in a ghost tour someday 🥳

I did one of the historical daytime tours with Rose, and I was very impressed and happy with our tour and the whole experience! I will definitely be going back to do the whole building tour and the paranormal tour. The building has been kept up really well for how old it is, it’s so rich with history and artifacts. The staff and everyone were very helpful and friendly! Yes, it was spooky. Even in the daytime😅

We arrived and were greeted by a "nurse" who instructed us to sign waivers. We then had to choose a tour. There were several, but our time was limited, so we chose the "Criminally Insane" tour. The tour began at noon and we wandered around the museum until 11:55. Our guide met us out front at the tent at noon. We were fortunate enough to be the only ones on the tour with one other person. The guide was knowledgeable and patient with our questions. We had time to look around each of the rooms. I definitely would like to go back for one of the more comprehensive tours. They offer tours that last anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours to overnight paranormal stays.

This place is amazing just for the history and architecture. They do several different types of tours that you can sign up for onsite although I’d recommend looking into them before you get there to ensure what you want to see is being offered at the time you’re there.Best part - it’s pet friendly! Bring some treats and poop bags and your best furry friend(s) can tour with you!You will have to sign a waiver but they have an easy way to do that if you don’t get it done before you arrive.Plan to go back and tour more of the site when I have more time!!

We did 3 tours total. First was the day time paranormal with Jada. She was awesome and very Knowledgeable. Second tour was 4th floor Miranda and Shelly they were great too. Very Knowledgeable too. Last tour was After Hours Paranormal. We had Bree. She was also very Knowledgeable. Late night tour is very different from day time. Overall this was an amazing experience with amazing staff

This massive structure is just absolutely stunning and breathtaking. I have been wanting to go here for years! (But set in stone due to Destination Fear/Project fear episode) I showed up and looking around the museums while waiting for our tour to start was incredibly as well. The criminally insane tour and four floor tour is an amazing set of tours to do! The guides/nurses are so knowledgeable and kind. The building is something to see for sure! I will for sure be returning to do the other tour options even though I live 800miles away.Jessica and Rose were great nurses/guides!

Just did the 90 minute 4 floor tour. Only had a little wait...less than 10 min on a Saturday. Tour was great, tour guide was informative. Museum to tour on your own after. Parking is easy. For this tour, there were stairs. Tour is PET FRIENDLY - you can bring your pet indoors with you on the tour!

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is a must-see destination. There are various tours available, catering to both historical and paranormal interests, or a mix of both. We opted for the 90-minute, four-floor tour, and it did not disappoint. The tour guides are dressed in period costumes, with the women dressed as nurses, adding to the immersive experience. Our guide was incredibly informative and brought the history of the asylum to life. There's so much to see and learn!I would absolutely return to experience one of the other tours. The dedication and effort put into restoring this building and its grounds are truly remarkable and clearly visible. Don’t miss the chance to visit this historical treasure!

We did the 4 floor tour, I recommend this if you’re looking for paranormal stuff. No matter where you are on this entire property it feels like you are being watched by many, MANY eyes (living and deceased lol). My friend and I are both very sensitive to that kind of thing. Here’s what happened: We both were very lightheaded, nauseous, headaches, etc. At one point it felt like someone was holding a lighter under my toe, I saw a female shadow walking around on the ground floor, every time I walked into the building my chest tightened and it was hard to breathe, my friend felt feelings of impending doom, hopelessness and escapism with each floor we went up, when we walked into this one room in the male section of the 3rd floor she said “this room is VERY bad, we need to leave” and right after she said that, our tour guide said “a murder took place in this room”, she began to have a panic attack so I asked our very nice tour guide if we could leave the tour early, he said yes. He walked us to the stairs and as we were walking down the stairs it felt like something was behind me pulling me back, like some sort of resistance. It felt like I had to use all my strength to move forward, like I was tied to a rope. We both felt extremely drained of energy on and could barely form sentences. Neither one of us can recall much of the tour, we can remember everything we saw, just no audible memory. Very odd place and a perfect October bucket list trip.

My sister is (was) visiting from Texas. And she is ALL about the paranormal so this was on her "must see and do" list. But she wasn't sure she wanted to do a paranormal tour so I assured her that by contractual agreement the permanent residents of the Asylum were not allowed to harass the visitors during the historical tour. Not sure she bought it but she agreed to do the historical tour. We did the VIP tour which is supposed to last 90 minutes. Our tour was well into 2 hours. Very informative. Our guide took her time and explained so many more things that I will ever remember. We were able to tour all 4 floors, most of the wings, and so many individual rooms. She told some really bad corny jokes that the younger generation didn't have a clue about. There are so many different tours available; over nights, guided, self guided, paranormal, historical. Something for (almost) everyone. I highly suggest you make a trip and check it out. The artifacts left behind, the history written on the walls, the rooms filled with furniture, the photos, way too many things to list

It was huge. Pictures don't do it justice as to the size. The architecture was amazing. They allowed me to admit my wife for $30. She had to sign her life away in waivers but she didn't really know. They allowed us to take our dog which was nice. It was a bit warm so go on a cool day. Due to the heat I dipped out early with our pooch as they showed my wife to her room. They were pleasant and accommodating. I haven't heard from her since, but they already had her scheduled for a lobotomy with Dr. Powell. I'll be back soon to see her for a couple's electroshock therapy. Honestly before you go, do some research. Although there is some dark history, there was also some good intentions. Either way it's history that shouldn't be lost, forgotten, or hidden.

This an incredible place and it has so many things to offer. I visited during early fall season and the resort was so nice and the view was spectacular. The mountain biking is a great activity to do during summer and fall.

Spent the weekend at Rimfire Lodge this weekend. Our room really was adorable! It did seem however that the lobby and our hallways seemed to be unfinished/under construction. Also it was slightly upsetting that our bathroom didn't have any lotion or liquid soap.. Can't beat the views of our room though! Will definitely be back!

Absolutely my favorite ski resort on the east coast! Far bigger than most resorts on that side of the country, an amazing ambiance and village life/restaurants and so much to do than just snowboarding! Hiking, mountain biking, festivals and events, and so much more! I love it so much I bought a home there so I could come as often as possible. Nothing gets better than those mountains, the crisp air, and the wonderful wild life there.

Had the opportunity to visit Snowshoe a few years ago with some family members during the Christmas holiday. The location couldn’t be more better being nestled in the West Virginian mountains. Our accommodations were comfortable and nice. The ski slopes were nice and forgiving especially for a first timer like myself. The restaurants within the resort served delicious food and hot drinks just right for the season. Overall, an unforgettable experience!

Pretty cool place, prices on the food and shops were not as bad as i anticipated.I stayed at the inn at the bottom and it was quite a bit in hidden fees, a room on the mountain is 200+$ in hidden fees.I attended the first hillfest and had a pretty good time. It was a bit disorganized but not a disaster.

If you are on a budget for a place to go, please take time to read my review. I included examples of what to expect in hopes you will not be as surprised as I was. They did not ruin my experience at all, but they were a lesson in being better prepared next time. With SMR being primarily geared for winter, I knew the shops and activities would be limited during the summer months. I wasn't there for any of that. I just needed an escape from life for a few days.Due to injuries, I've been out of touch for over 2 years so my first lesson was that the price we initially see doesn't include all the fees that will be associated with the room. In some places I researched, the taxes and fees were more than the cost of the room itself. At SMR they were at least equal. The total was going to be around $900 for 5 days & 4 nights. Roughly $450 for the room. $450 in taxes and fees. It can get a little confusing because the pricing can change depending on what you're doing. If you do not need daily maid service, that's a savings. For example, if you stayed 1 day, the cost might be $250 (Room/Taxes/Fees) If you stayed 2 nights, the cost might be $450 - So it's more, but it's not twice the price because you did not need maid service the 2nd day. It saved you $50 overall. **Please note these are numbers I made up as examples and are not actual pricing. They're just to reflect how the price structure seems to be designed as observed by my stay.**As for my experience - Every staff member I passed greeted me. Everyone was genuinely personable. The place was mostly quiet. They have music that's broadcast publicly in several areas. I wasn't a big fan of it, but that's just my taste. If I'm on top of a mountain, I enjoy the peace and quiet of nature over music. Fortunately, it didn't start till around 9am so as long as I was up early, I could sit outside and enjoy the silence.Snowshoe has been attempting to growing as a summertime destination. In addition to weekend events, they have considerable mountain bike related activities as well as a mountain bike rental shop. With the rental, you get a helmet, chest and shin armor. This is another place where you need to understand their pricing. The advertised rental fee does not include the lift ticket for the bicycle. The folks inside the shop were extremely helpful with everything except what to expect as far as total cost. I didn't feel they attempted to deceive me although I told them I had zero experience with anything related to what I was asking about. In short, the sign says rentals start at $79, but that's for a kid's bike and does not include the lift ticket to get the bike back to the top of the hill. By the time I was ready to go, my cost for a one day rental was almost $240. $150 for the bike. $60 for the lift ticket. The rest were other taxes and fees. It's important to know that the play pass you get from the front desk at check-in does not cover this either. Bicycles require their own pass. So yeah, I had a little sticker shock when the final cost was more than twice what I expected it to be.Other than those two examples, the pricing for everything else felt like what you would expect at a tourist destination. Starbucks $7-ish for a large Mocha. Pizza $26 for the smaller of the two sizes. I want to say it was around $7-$8 for a single scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. Fountain drinks were $3-$4. There is a small convenience store at the far end of the resort. It carries the essentials - to include distilled water for CPAP machines, which was nice.Overall, I had a great stay at the location. The climate was amazing my entire stay. The room was very nice and felt clean. $900 for 4 nights in a room that was like a small apartment with a pretty decent view off the balcony is nothing to complain about. I would certainly do this again some time.Oh, and they do give a discount for military which for me, saved like $60.

We had such a fun time on this trip! Definitely, great for family. They have many different restaurants, and shops. I’m not a big skier, as well as my younger two kids. We enjoyed just hanging out in the Village while the others skied. The shuttles made it real helpful getting around the area. Everyone there was nice and very helpful!

This was our first trip to Snowshoe. We had a wonderful experience. The phone reservation staff was extremely helpful in getting a package put together that included kids lessons, rentals, and lodging. The village environment was impressive. We also lucked out with great weather. The Ballhooter lift line was substantial, but it was easy to find great runs and lifts with no lines even during a busy Saturday. Silver Creek is also a great option for new skiers. It was a great trip. We will be back!

20 year snowshoe veteran. The premier east coast destination for skiing and snowboarding. Snowshoe has really invested some $$$ upgrading their facilities in the past decade. Starting from the top down, you waste no time getting on the mountain slopes. Start at top of the world and make your way across the mountain to Western Territory for the closest thing to boarding out West in the Glades. Hungry for lunch? Snowshoe has many completely unique dining experiences to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters accompanied by a lively village full of shops and entertainment. Haven’t got enough of the slopes yet? Head down to Silvercreek for their glorious night skiing, a feature many resorts lack. Mountain Lodge and Allegheny Springs are ideal places to stay due to their location to the slopes. Shoot for a day when they get some powder and you will have the time of your life! As a WV local, I feel very blessed to have Snowshoe in our backyard and am very grateful they continue to improve their operation by adding upgraded lifts and large snow moving equipment. We love you Snowshoe!!!

Overall Snowshoe is a great place to vacation for skiing with young kids and non-skiers. The Village is nice to stay at with restaurants and shops beside the hotels. The inside/outside pools are great. The ski school and instructors are great! The website and posters showed that Silver Creek’s outside ice skating rink was open. When we went, it was closed and no one at the resorts knew anything about it. The Bear’s Den at Silver Creek was disappointing. There was no one around and when someone walked by we were told it was already closed.Activities need to be booked at least the day before. Most of the staff was so friendly and helpful.

Snowshoe resort was perfect for our family winter ski/snowboard vacation. We stayed at mountain lodge. Everything was centrally located with the village within walking distance. We loved that mountain lodge had a play area, arcade, and ice rink for the kids when the slopes closed for the day. Both of our kids were in preski/(playcare) and snowboarding lessons. The instructors were great with the kids and I cannot stress enough how amazing the playcare workers were. They remembered us from a year ago! Greeting our eldest by name even though he wasn’t staying with them this year! Snowshoe does a great job of making you feel at home and providing great service and slopes to spend a relaxing vacation. Our first day of stay I was worried because it had just rained for two days but the snowshoe snow machines and workers made a huge effort over night to get the slopes in skiing condition. It was probably the best snow conditions I had seen in years. Thankfully the weather relented and we had a few days of flurries so in addition to the snow making it was a great time.

Our family has been to Snowshoe three times for family trips, each time skiing 4 days. If you are thinking of booking a trip here, do it.For context: I am an expert-level skier who has skied about 20 resorts n the Western US, 6 resorts in the East, and 5 resorts in Europe. A ski trip is not purely about the size of the mountain, the quality of the snow, etc. It is a mix of factors that make you walk away with a smile, feeling like you had a great time and paid a fair price; or a grimace, feeling like the experience just wasn’t worth the money. Snowshoe has— every time— sent me home with a smile, feeling like I had a great experience, got a great value, and that I want to return again as soon as possible.Skiing: No, it can’t compete with Vail for terrain, or Alta for snow quality, or Kirkwood for challenge. But there is enough variety, challenge, and vertical drop to keep me and my whole family endlessly entertained for four days in a row. My kids LOVE it. Actually, it has been a better family experience than the Western resorts we took them to. Why? Because Snowshoe is big enough to have variety and challenge, and to foster a sense of discovery; but small enough that kids can learn the mountain, push their limits, and not be intimidated or get lost. In addition, I submit that there are very few cruisers ANYWHERE that are better than Cupp Run. Upper Shay’s Revenge, Grabhammer, Ballhooter, and Widowmaker are also world-class cruisers. If you can’t have fun on those, you just don’t like skiing.Vertical drop: Snowshoe lifts have 800-1200 ft of vertical. Yes, it’s awesome out west where you can ski for 10 min from top to bottom. But Snowshoe’s runs are long enough that by the time you get to the bottom, you would be stopping for a break anyway. So at Snowshoe, you take your break on the lift. Cupp Run and Shay’s are longer. If you can ski top to bottom without taking a break, you’re in good shape. The Village: Attractive, convenient, fun. The perfect size for a family ski trip. Enough shops and restaurants to keep you busy, everything close together and convenient.Accommodations: It’s cool being on top of the mountain. I’ve only stayed at two places: Allegheny Springs and Rimfire Lodge. Both were great. I liked Rimfire a lot, loved Allegheny.Amenities: Allegheny has its own pool, hot tubs, and sauna, which are excellent. Rimfire has its own hot tub and sauna, which are great. There is also the Split Rock pools, which are really fun.Lacking: Spa facilities and services. Non-skiers ought to be able to get a massage, manicure, facial, etc to pass the time while their families ski. Also it would be great if there was a main Lodge with a big fireplace for non-skiers to hang out and meet others, and for skiers to hang out between runs and after skiing. There are a lot of individual lodges, bars, and restaurants, so this may not be a very fair criticism, but it’s something my wife wanted since she was unable to ski on this trip.Weather/Snow: Snowshoe is a bit higher altitude, a little lower latitude than New England resorts. It gets a little less natural snow, and is a little more likely to have warm spells than New England resorts. HOWEVER: Snowshoe has MUCH better snowmaking than almost all New England resorts. They are aggressive with their snowmaking, and their snow is somehow better than other man-made snow. I think it’s due to their very high-tech snowblowers. I have skied there once at the very end of March, once the first week of March, and once the last week of February. In all three trips (12 days of skiing), it has rained once. And 100% of the mountain has been open every time. Silver Creek closes earlier, so it was not open on the late March trip, but it was open for the other two trips.Silver Creek: This is a HUGE bonus of skiing Snowshoe. Woke up late? No problem, Silver Creek is open till 9PM!In short: Just book that Snowshoe trip. It is a New England-quality resort you can drive to from most places in the Southeast. You won’t regret it.

An amazing show and the people working there was so kind to the group of seniors I brought. There his hidden talent in that place!! I’ve been there numerous times and they just keep getting better and better. Food wasn’t bad either.

We attended the 50s diner murder mystery. It was great fun as the characters interacted with the audience. I was late clapping for Pipers bit from the stage so she went through her bit again for me and I responded with a standing ovation! It was a most enjoyable experience and the dinner served was excellent. This was our first time there and we plan to return.

Show and food were awesome. We went at the last minute and we had no problem getting in. So much food we couldn't eat it all.

I loved the Gandy Dancer. I took a bus trip there to have lunch and watch an Elvis musical show. The food and show were excellent and I had a wonderful time. I highly recommend going to the Gandy Dancer Music Theater.

My husband and I made the trip to Elkins just to see the Premier Show of the Gandy Dancers. We've been told that the show is very similar to what you'd see in Branson, Missouri. Well, we've never been to Branson, but this show was a real delight. The singing, dancing and band were all great. The musicians were excellent. We bought tickets for dinner and the show. It was a plated dinner of chicken, green beans, baked potatoes and Cole slaw, all very tasty. I particularly enjoyed the performance of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." It was lively and the fiddler was outstanding. We had so much fun that we've purchased tickets for the Christmas program.

The show was phenomenal with very high quality vocals and musicians. I wish I lived closer to come more often. Reasonable price for top quality entertainment Food was good but not outstanding

We had a great time. The performers were excellent. The only thing that they could improve on was the dinner. It wasn't bad but could've been better. We will definitely come back if in the area again.

It was refreshing to know the GANDY DANCERS are all from West Virginia, and the talents are all performed by great musicians & artists who know their limits! They are soaring to the sky’s in my book! WOW, what voices and music is incredible

It was good food & the servers were very good. The show had some very good talent. It was a bit corny, but made us all laugh & we all had a very good time.

Excellent performance. Seated up front next to stage. Was concerned it would be uncomfortably loud. I couldn't be more wrong - these people have this performance down to an exact science. Talented musicians, The Whitney Houston performance was spot on. They were all spot on. Not a bad seat in the room. No one standing in front of you. Covered various artists - all of which I loved. I could have stayed two more hours - hated that it had to end. It is definitely a must see👍❤️

Murder Mystery Dinner "Grumpiest are Women"The total experience was great. We would absolutely do it again, had so much fun.The service was on point, the show was funny and the performance was very good. The food however was only okay (Chicken Cordon Bleu, Hamburger Steak, Baked Potato, Green Bean) was the frozen box variety, but edible.

A 3 star rating is probably generous, but a couple of the performers were pretty good. Dinner was not good. I expected much more.

Lodge, cabins & a restaurant are available at this scenic destination close to waterfalls & hiking.
We absolutely love Blackwater Falls! Located in my home state of WV, the park brings serenity and tranquility to anyone who visits. The falls, the trails…We even found a trail up near the lodge that was reminiscent of a movie set. Trees grew in an amazing way…roots seem to have been above ground and trees were open. I had never seen anything like it! Would love to make another trip back soon!

This is a jewel we’ve been visiting for 30 years. First time at the campground and first summer visit. The campground is fabulous.Good cell coverage, good access and lots of pull through sites. We went in august during the week and did not get reservations ahead because there are NO refunds if your plans change.Lots of great trails and over looks— we recommend Lindy Overlook. Just amazing and suitable for persons who can only hike less than a mile. One negative— the dump station is in the middle of one of the loops!! That’s right. Between sites 40-49, approximately. Once you dump you have to make a hair pin turn to stay on the loop on the correct direction. Send someone to the left to watch for vehicles entering the loop, and go back to the main road backwards.

An absolute gem of a State Park with beautiful forest trails through hemlock and red spruce groves as well as lovely vistas overlooking the Blackwater river and canyon. One of my favorite hikes is the Yellow Birch and Allegheny Trails to Ekalala Falls. The park is a great place to picnic, especially at Pendleton Point.

Blackwater Falls Campground. Aug 23-29, 2024. Beautiful. Clean. Well kept. Most sites were shaded and roomy. Restrooms/Showers were extremely clean and well cared for. Store was nice, a little pricey, good camp supplies, would have been nice to have some basic foods like bread and milk. Staff was phenomenal, accommodating and so friendly. Rangers waved each time they drove by. We had a trail through our site and the hikers were polite and respectful. Deer visited our site every dusk and dawn. Our only disappointment was the swimming lake. Beach was covered in goose mess as well as you could see it in the waters edge. Water was slimy and scummy. Paddle boats would have been nice, might even help stir the water and move the geese. Must be near a military base, fighter jets and planes flew loud and low right over us. We found it cool. The camp is close to the lodge/restaurant/pool, lots of trails and overlooks as well as several falls. Over all a great campground. Ive already recommended to my friends and family.

Really beautiful park with plenty to do and some breath taking views especially in early October when all the leaves are changing colors that was pretty much the hole reason for us going I would definitely recommend adding this to your camping list. And they also have a really nice lodge if your not into camping an such.

Beautiful park and trails. A must see if you’re in the area. Very clean and clearly managed well. Attention grabbing views and photo spots the whole way down to the falls, including a fun swing. The falls themselves are breathtaking and remind you of the beauty and power of nature. There is a very nice shop/store as well, Blackwater Trading Company, which has food and beverages, gifts and souvenirs (closes at 3:50pm). We just visited the falls, but there are many other venues and places to visit in the area if time permits.

This was beautiful!!!!!! It had also just snowed and I felt like I was in Narnia. The lodge was surprisingly updated except for the lobby upstairs that led down to your rooms they still had old 1970s-type art and photos hanging which is a shame as that dates it.Plenty of parking, elevator as well. Small but nice gift shop, pool and hot tub were nice. Pool could be a bit warmer as it was still chilly for a heated pool. The views were gorgeous and Sunsets are perfect. The food is hit and miss and why it got 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Our first night the dinner was amazing. The next morning for breakfast was a total let down. It was all processed heated waffles, pancakes and we literally ate fruit and a box of cereal it was that bad.We went back for dinner that night and it was awful. Not sure why the change or what happend but we sent my husband's food back and they said they couldn't make him a burger as they just started cleaning the grill. So him and I shared my burger. We quickly gave up on food here and ended up going down the street to a little tiny diner that looked like nothing but was decent food and nice people.I would recommend the lodge but skip the food and hit town to eat.If you offroad Canaan Valley trail was glorious! A bit overgrown in some areas but we were early season so hopefully it's been cleared again. #jeep

I love BWSP and have made the 3+ hour trip several times in the past couple years. As a waterfall enthusiast I am lucky this place is so close. It tends to be super busy but worth it. There are a lot of outdoorsy activities here and the views are 🤌🤌. You can use your drone if you get permission from the superintendent (go to the front desk of the lodge) and follow the rules.

I have visited 4 times in the past 3 years. This April was my first springtime visit. The water was really high, because it had rained the previous days. The walkway was wet, but not slippery. There was a lot of mist, but it was so great to see the waterfall so full!I love the Trading Post. The bathrooms are always clean. The cashiers are helpful to answer random questions about park, the falls and hiking trails & the items for purchase.

One of WV's great natural attractions. There are multiple observation areas to accommodate for variances in physical endurance/ability. The visitor areas had fully functional, well maintained (clean) bathrooms. As someone with depth perception/lower visual acuity, a strip of highlight paint or other signifier on the edge of stairs would be beneficial for navigation. I did okay, but 100% of my focus has to go on the stairs instead of the pretty nature around me.The picnic areas outside of the visitor lodge were perfect for a quick after hike snack. There was a snack bar with refreshments available.
Emily E — Google review
The falls are gorgeous, its more of a stop for a half hour, see them then move on. Very well designed boardwalk to see them. Small observation deck so it got crowded quick. Its not a trail through the serene woods. No trails, no open spaces. Dogs everywhere. Dog fights, barking dogs at other dogs, owners struggling to hold onto their leashes. I spent more time dodging dogs. Make it a NO DOG trail. I have a dog, but left him home. Wasnt crowded on a beautiful Sunday in May and its free! Quite a few kids in noisy little cars scateboarding in lot. Get yourself to Falls of Hills Creek. Ranger with stach was quite unhelpful. No cell service or wifi in gift shop to gps yourself out of there. Its worth the stop if on your way to the great WV countryside!

We had a blast exploring the park and enjoying the views. . It was an overall great experience! The natural beauty and scenery of Blackwater Falls State Park is truly breathtaking. From the majestic waterfalls to the lush greenery, every corner of the park offers a picturesque view. Whether you're hiking through the trails or simply taking in the sights, you'll be immersed in the stunning landscapes that make this park a true gem.

The Blackwater Falls has decent parking. There are a lot of stairs leading to the falls. This will present a challenge for those with limited mobility. Water was lower due to current drought however the falls were cascading beautifully. Crowds did make achieving a video without additional voices in the background a little difficult. Great photo opportunities of falls and also with the Almost Heaven swing placed in the middle of descent to falls. The history provided at the site is very interesting. There is also a great souvenir shop, Blackwater Trading Co, located at the main parking lot. Wide variety of items available, from locally made items & art to t-shirts, sticker and other interesting giftware. Nearby campgrounds were nice. There was also a lot of nearby cabins available though we did not stay at them, they looked nice.

This park is lovely! While visiting West Virginia, we took a day trip to see the falls. It's amazing how clean and well-kept the park is! I was truly impressed. The falls is at the bottom of a long series of steps. 200 steps! I helped my elderly mother down and back up. She said the the steps were spaced lower whichever helped her. Also be sure to take the 0.7 mile loop out to Lindy Point. It is an amazing view of the valley. And the falls are much bigger and impressive than the pictures imply. I thought it would be a small set of falls. They were beautiful. I truly enjoyed the park!

Love this area so much even during the first snowfall of the season! It was very slippery bit beautiful! This was my 2nd time to this place and I definitely recommend going during the off season when there is less people. This was amazing during this time. Quiet, peaceful, and no crowds. Such a beautiful place!

Nice trail to the Falls. Great scenery. Several informative signs along the way. It is a boardwalk all the way to the falls, but remember, there are 200 or so stairs down and back. Not bad for some, but will be unbearable/inaccessible for those who cannot walk much of a distance. Nice Trading Post on site. They also have a snack bar. All in All it is an excellent way to spend a few hours.

Blackwater Falls State Park was the absolute BEST venue for our Summer 2023 wedding. My family has been coming to Blackwater Falls since I was a little girl. My partner and I got married at Pendleton Point with 150 guests overlooking the breathtaking West Virginia views. Our guests loved the lodge and our immediate family adored the large cabins so close to the venue site. There are so many spots for stunning photos and hiking experiences inside the park. The towns of Thomas and Davis, WV are so fun to explore. We are so so grateful for Blackwater Falls State Park, Lois Reed (the lodge manager), and all the wonderful memories formed here. I highly recommend Blackwater Falls State Park for weddings, events, picnics, and a weekend escape!

Beautiful setting, good signage made it easy to find, and the lodge is well appointed. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant very much; the roast beef dinner was deliciousWe loved the "big" waterfall at Blackwater Falls State Park.Unfortunately, the desk clerk in the lodge mentioned that there's a "small" falls (requiring an approximately one-mile hike) WHEN WE WERE CHECKING OUT! 🤔😐

I had no idea that the almost heaven swing was here. I was presently surprised to walk around the corner to see it.There is a learning center down the road that has a lot of fun activities for the kids and some snakes and turtles to look at. It was nice to get out of the heat for a bit and learn some interesting facts.

Have not been there since pandemic started in 2019. Was very disappointed at the cleanliness. Trash between slot machines. Ladies restroom smelled. No one cleaning machines after people left the machine they were playing. Very disappointed at the food gallery. Pizza was cold and poor selection at other areas offering food. Employees were standing around talking to each other and a lot were on their phones. Was not greeted upon entry to casino. They were to involved in their own conversations. No one smiling. They need to go to Live Casino In Greensburg and see how things should be done. Clean, friendly, happy employees engaging with customers to be sure their experience at the Casino is top notch.

Something has changed with slot payouts recently (starting January 2023). Used to be that we’d play and get wins and could play for hours which was entertaining even though we’d go home with nothing. Now we play and run out of money immediately. Bonus games won are typically very small wins. Also, everyone around us has been losing. No excitement. We were there with friends last night and they had free slot play drawings. The winners who were chosen (5 per hour) were winning $200 to $300 in free slot play. They used to have drawings giving out $500 to $1,000. Also, if the winner didn’t show up in time, they wouldn’t call out additional names. I know the casino needs to make money but they’ve definitely lowered the RTP in slots. Other than what’s been happening recently, the entire casino is awesome. Employees are nice too. Picture is a win from December 2022 when slots were paying out more often.

A good place to lose fast. Slot machines are too tight and offer no play time unless you keep feeding them cash, food is not great. I will give the cleaning staff credit as it is clean but for the most part payouts seem non existent.

We couldn't get into an RV park on that day, so found this place to boondock. It was FABULOUS. HUGE RV/TRUCK lot to park in. Beautiful views, and you walk across the top of parking garage, take elevator down and then into the casino. And the Casino is super nice, as are the staff! We were about to leave and had some doggy poopoo in a bag and not sure what to do, since we couldn't find the dumpster. A staff person in a golf cart was driving by said to just throw it in his trash can on the cart. The boys liked it too!

Very nice casino. The sky walk connection to the Hyatt hotel to the parking garage is nice. A little much to walk through in the parking garage to get to the casino if you are parked in the hotel area side, but it's nice because it's enclosed. The casino floor is huge. We visited on a Wednesday night and it was pretty empty. However on Friday after checkout I stopped over and played some slots and it was filling up pretty quickly around noon time. The staff was very friendly and the host that was on shift on Wednesday was even able to get us a nice compted meal at the Club Elite & Owners Lounge. The meal was great and the alcoholic drinks were strong and a decent price. I checked out the poker room and it was smaller, but layout was nice and there is a cage right there which is always a plus. Definitely a spot we will be stopping at and hopefully also staying at the next time we are in the Pittsburgh area.

Hollywood Casino at The Meadows is about 25 miles outside of Pittsburgh and has a variety of slot machines, table games, and a harness racing track. The casino also has a selection of dining options, a hotel & spa and a full schedule of events and concerts throughout the year.I noticed the reviews were mixed (before my first visit) and can certainly see why, after my second visit. We did notice a large variety of slots (though many were older) and a good number of table games for the size. However, as many mentioned, the decor is dated & boring. With the exception of the Barstool games area, there's not much to give you a sense of fun or joy. The staff I've encountered have been either helpful and friendly or quite the opposite, especially the bar staff.Overall, Hollywood Casino at The Meadows is an average casino. It is not the best casino in Pennsylvania, not the worst either. If you are looking for a place to gamble, see a cover band or just have some fun, it is definitely one of the better suited options in the area.

Very bad Casino. Worst experience ever at a casino. They forced my friend to the side and told him he couldn't drink in their casino anymore. Even though he was not being loud or disrespectful to anyone.

Not like any casino that i have ever been to.They are ALL about profit . If you order a drink it seems to take for ever to get it .Every casino i have been to have drink stations even today . Not Hollywood casino though .If your machine runs out of paper it does take a long time to fill 15 min. I do not like Hollywood casino i tolerate it .

This place is getting so cheap. I previously got a whole $5 freeplay monday thru Friday. Now I get nothing. The handsoap in the bathroom is watered down so much you can't even wash your hands. They have lids and straws by the pop machine but you have to ask for a cup and was actually told by one of the places in the food court they would have to charge me $2 if they gave me a cup!!!

Been going to The Meadows since it was only a racetrack in the early 70's. The casino was built in 2009, I believe Hollywood is the 3rd owner. The casino in spacious, clean, half is smoke free. The staff is friendly, the dealers are polite and courteous. During the evenings and weekends, they have about 50 table games open. But if you're a morning gambler, they open only 2 Blackjack tables at 9am.The Best things about visiting Hollywood casino: It's clean, the environment feels very safe, not a long walk from Parking Garage to Casino. Food Court options are pricey, though food is decent. The Worst things: They close their table games at 4am, reopen at 9am. The Slots are VERY tight. Lastly, their Players Rewards aren't much. A new player may lose $1,000 playing Blackjack - if you fortunate, maybe a Pit boss will give you $10 food money on your Card.Enjoy.

I went to the Hollywood casino with a bus full of seniors from Pittsburgh. I actually like this casino more than the Rivers casino in Pittsburgh. It's very clean and has wonderful slot machines although they are a bit pricey. I was a little bit disturbed because some of the restaurants were not open on a wednesday, but we still had a nice lunch there. I really do wish they would stop smoking in casinos though, when you walk in the door you immediately can smell smoke and even if you go to the non-smoking section it permeates that side of the building

Wooded park with a 1.2-mile trail to Muddy Creek Falls has a biking trail, picnic area & camp sites.
Rented a cabin for a weekend in June and brought the kids. The cabin and site was excellent: clean and orderly. There was an overhead fan in the cabin, a mini fridge, queen bed and twin bunk beds: perfect for a family of four. There was a picnic bench and fire ring. The bath house was surprisingly clean. There’s also a place to wash dishes. There is a convenient place to dump trash and recycle plastics. This park is not dog friendly so I’d recommend boarding your dog. There are several jungle gyms and swing sets for the kids. The trail system was excellent, beautiful old trees and several remarkable waterfalls. The camp store sells ice, firewood, soda, snacks, shirts, camping gear, etc. The weekend seemed to be busy so be prepared to share the trails with lots of large groups. We didn’t see any wildlife except for some deer, squirrels, and birds. The nearby town of Oakland has a few interesting spots including the B&O Railroad Museum and the Garrett County Museum of Transportation. This is a beautiful state park and I’d highly recommend it!

We've stayed in cabins here and homes the Canyon Loop Trail many times with our kids over the past decade. This is one of our favorite state parks. The trail is walkable for even preschoolers and there are loop options of many different distances with several different waterfalls to see. Hiking boots or rugged shoes are a must, and much of it is not stroller friendly, although there is one stretch where you can take a stroller from the parking lot down a smooth ish trail to the top of one of the falls.Definitely recommend and we will continue to come back here to visit.

Had a great time hiking the trails and seeing the Muddy Creek Falls. The Youghiogheny river is so powerful and majestic. The family also had fun climbing the rocks along the trail and finding all these little hidden nooks. Tolliver Falls was pretty cool too.

Absolutely beautiful waterfall and river. Easy enough to get down to it and snap a few awesome pics. Best go during off hours / days because it can swarm with kids. Etc.

Really beautiful place. There are a lot of nice views, and areas where you can enjoy the water. I went over labor day weekend so it was a bit crowded, but overall a great experience. The trail is mostly walkable but I will advise it's a bit tricky to navigate in a couple spots so just use caution if with small children or are mobility challenged. It's $5/person for out of state residents and $3/person in state. I believe they also offer discounts for veterans/active military. There was plenty of parking as well. And fully functioning, clean restrooms prior to entering the trail.

Beautiful loop hiking trail that packs a punch with 4 waterfalls. Easy walk, only a little over a mile long. Was pretty busy on a Saturday. Not crazy about the $5/person non-residence entry fee, but I guess it does help keep the crowds down at this small park. From the trailhead info boards it sounds like they do some pretty cool group activities for free!

This mountain park is located nine miles north of Oakland, Maryland and contains some of Maryland's most breathtaking scenery. The Youghiogheny River flows along the park's borders, passing through shaded rocky gorges and creating rippling rapids. Muddy Creek Falls is a crashing 53-foot waterfall – a spectacular sight. Tall hemlocks dominate the silent woods. The 1 1/4 mile trail through Swallow Falls guides hikers to some of the most breath-taking scenery in Western Maryland.

Great loop in the woods just a few miles west of Deep Creek. Lots of shade and waterfalls along the trail as most of it followed the river and offers picturesque views. It can get muddy after the rain and there are rocks that you'll have to step on or over so choose good footwear.$3/person in-state to enter. Plenty of parking. They also offer camping for those interested.
Mike D — Google review
Nice state park. Trail has 4 waterfalls in which some people enjoy swinning in. The trail path is smooth and easy at the main part. The inner loop of trail along the river can be more challenging. Beautiful 1.2 miles for a cost of $5 per person.

beautiful state park with an easy waterfall trail loop that showcases 4 unique, and equally stunning waterfalls!Including taking a million photos, the trail took us about 1.5 hiurs to complete. Take your time, and take some of the trails that shoot off of the mail trail down to the river. a ton of great spots with gorgeous views you wont want to kiss!

7/10/2024. First, it costs $5 per person to enter the park. Which is the highest we have ever paid to get into a State Park. We were there just for the trail and waterfalls, which are beautiful, but I'm not sure it was worth $20. Trail is not marked well at all. Overall, it is not worth the price if you only plan on walking the trail. The trail is a bit over 1.2 miles.

Wonderful park with easy hiking trails. If you do the whole loop, you will see all the falls, and it is a sight to be seen. Can be a little slippery following rain, good hiking, or shoes with decent tread recommended.

Extremely clean trail and beautiful scenery with a giant waterfall. And whenever I was there I didn't see a single piece of trash anywhere along the trails
Landon F — Google review
An amazing gem of beauty and fun! Highly recommend visiting this state park. Three of the four falls are remarkable, one is okay. The nature walk is only about 1.5 miles with two options, one path a little farther from the rivers and falls and more accessible; the other is right along the river and falls and has stairs and narrower, slightly rougher trails. Really well maintained, so certainly worth the $5 per person, and they let me in free as a retired military member. Bring a swimming suit if you wish to carefully wade into the several falls areas and be cautious of getting too near the slippery rocks near the falls. Our group was adults and teens, and I saw families with babies in strollers or carrying packs, this place is family friendly and great for the more adventurous as well. Nice picnic area that appears available for reservations.

Great hike with gorgeous views of the river and falls. We entered at the main access point and went left to the Canyon Loop. The trails are relatively easy with a short stretch that requires a bit more focus - we started to wonder if we had missed the trail - but hadn’t 😎I would definitely go back to this park!

Swallow Falls State Park is a must stop if you love the outdoors and are in the Deep Creek area. It's about a 15 minute drive from the center of Deep Creek and is an easy hike that most people should be able to complete with no problem. This park contains Maryland's tallest cascade waterfall (Muddy Creek Falls) at 53 feet.We went to the park in February, however it was warm and there was not a lot of snow on the ground. If you are there in the winter and it is cold, it is recommended that you bring some crampons as there can be ice on the trail. Bring some cash because there is a $3 charge per vehicle when you enter the park using the honor system. There is a parking area, and the trail entrance is easily found with a large sign. There are two directions as the trail is a loop, which is approximately 1.25 miles. If you want to see Myddy Creek Falls, head left and you will arrive at the falls in about a quarter mile. The park is very well maintained and there are stairs accessible to see the falls from many different perspectives. You can walk out on the rocks on top of the falls if you want to take a closer look. The rest of the trail is clearly marked and contains many interesting rock formations. You will see other falls along the rivers.I took my family and another family with small children and everyone enjoyed the hike. I measured 1.60 miles on my hike with going out on the many rock formations around the trail. I highly recommend this park if you are looking for an outdoor activity in Western Maryland.

Beautiful Falls! The hike was easy we had a large group of people with kids ranging from 1-1/2 to 8 and they all were able to navigate easily. It was a little crowded at some of the spots but that should be expected for the season. It was still great!

A wonderful park with an active waterfall. The trail along the river is medium level and can be tough in the winter and when raining. Highly recommend for those visiting and locals at Deep Creek Lake area.

A Memorable Camping and Hiking AdventureMy recent camping and hiking trip to Swallow Falls State park Campground (Toliver loop). was an absolute delight with my family! From the moment we arrived, the experience was filled with joy, adventure, and tranquility.Arrival and Setup (day 1):We reached the campsite in the end of May 2024 early evening by 4pm, being a weekday we were all alone (out of 65 sites) on the first day. The check-in process was smooth. Setting up our tent was a breeze thanks to the spacious and well-maintained campsite. The site was nestled among tall trees, providing ample shade and a serene atmosphere.Camping Comforts:The campground was equipped with excellent facilities. Clean restrooms and hot showers were a pleasant surprise, adding a touch of comfort to our rugged adventure. There were also picnic tables and fire pits at each site, perfect for our evening campfire gatherings.Hiking Trails (day 2):The highlight of our trip was the easy 1-1/4 mile hiking trails. A easy hike that offered stunning views of the surrounding 3 good water falls Lower falls, Upper falls and Muddy Creek falls. The trail was well-marked and maintained, making it easy to navigate. Along the way, we encountered tall towering trees, great river and even spotted a few deer grazing in the distance.Evening Relaxation:Evenings at the campground were magical. We gathered around the campfire, roasting marshmallows, BBQ and sharing stories under a canopy of stars. Conclusion:Our camping and hiking trip to the Muddy Creek Falls was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. The pristine natural beauty, combined with the well-maintained facilities and friendly staff (Chris), made for an unforgettable experience. Whether you're an avid hiker or just looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, Swallow Falls Campground is a destination that promises joy, peace, and lasting memories. We can't wait to return for another adventure!

The Duquesne Incline in Pittsburgh offers a delightful ride on a beautifully restored wooden cable car, providing fantastic photo opportunities of the city's skyline and surrounding vistas. This historic mode of transportation has been running for almost 150 years and is a must-see attraction in Pittsburgh. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views from both the cable car and the observation deck at the top station, where there are also exhibits detailing the incline's history and its significance to Pittsburgh.
The ride is worth the wait. The view up top is good, but the ride from the from the back of the car is really unique. It is shaky and is not smooth, which made it a fun ride.

I didn't enjoy my visit for several reasons:1. You have to pay for parking, which costs $5 for 2 hours.2. I came with my wife and kids (13, 10, and a baby in a stroller). It was very hot, and we all felt tired. We had to wait in a long line to buy tickets, and they only accept exact cash.3. The staff were rude and unhelpful, with one lady shouting instructions through a microphone.4. The gift shop at the top was small and sold trivial items. This place needs updating. They should accept credit card payments, have a website for advance ticket purchases, and add air conditioning—it was unbearably hot.

Make sure you have exact change in cash! $2.50 each way so $5 per person. No change or credit cards here. Great view of Pittsburgh and some cool spots to check out at the top of Mt Washington

Very beautiful and historic place. The incline has been running since the 1800's. Its been a must see location in Pittsburgh for many years. My son and I went for our 1st but not last visit. The views of the city are spectacular. Many different ways to get great photos. On the cable car and at the top on the observation deck. At the top there are lots of exhibits that outline some of the history of the incline and cars. It also depicts interesting history of Pittsburgh. It is so cheap that a family could afford this fun and educational excursion. Ill definately be back with more of my family. Take cash and exact change. A round trip for 2 adults is $10. They are friendly and nice enough to let you go ahead and ride. You can get change at the top. Either from the gift shop or an ATM.

Great spot to visit in Pittsburgh if you want that panoramic view of the city. Indeed breathtaking! Parking is provided and within good walking distance. Just didn't like the fact that you had to have the exact cash to provide, although there was a coin machine to swap out your bills just in case. Overall good experience

Ride the cable car At Duquesne Incline and see the best views of downtown PittsburghSo whenever you see pictures of Pittsburgh, I am sure you are looking it downtown with and cable car in the foreground. it is easily one of the best things to do in Pittsburgh. From the cars, there are great views out over the city. Once used to transport workers all the way back since the 1800s. they are still using two original 1877 cable cars, the Duquesne Incline is a working museum, with the upper station providing photos and displays on the history of the incline. at the top, you can also see the working mechanism, wheel, and all.I don't know if it is the norm, but there was a guide in our cabin and he gave a brief idea about incline history, and how it come into the picture. Duquesne Incline was rescued and restored by a group of local residents in 1963 and still delights residents and visitors with its original, elegant, wooden cable carsParking: $10 and that's valid for 24 hours. Parking is more expensive than tickets which are just $5. You don't pay at the counter, you put the exact amount in a cylindrical box (nobody checks what you are putting in the container). a counter lady comes in a while and shoves it with a stick. i have never seen a system like this.if you want to experience a slice of the city’s long history, go for it.

Rode the incline up and down as part of an excellent sightseeing tour offered by Molly's Trolleys. There is a panoramic view at the top of Pittsburgh from the north side. The ride is in a no-frills vintage car and there are antique photos in the waiting area.

Really nice place but a bit expensive...the feel of the ride is awesome...you need to pay for parking for nearly $10 and for the price available on the website.

whoa! this is such a unique experience. Its definitely the more historic-feeling of the 2 inclines. Both inclines are wonderful but I love the vintage nuance of Duquesne. Just keep it functional and absolutely preserve the wabi sabi aesthetic pls Pittsburgh, otherwise don't change anything - its beautiful! thx

PNC Park, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team, is a classic stadium with beautiful architecture and a large fan base. The stadium has hosted all sorts of events, from major league baseball games to concerts. The views of the city are wonderful and the food at some of the restaurants nearby is great.
Perhaps the most beautiful Ball Park in America. The stadium is just the best, and the view of the city and Clemente Bridge are spectacular. We had so much fun and even saw a 10-minute Fire Works Show. Great Time in Pittsburg, and I gotta recommend the Pickle Pizza at Voodoo Brewery. It's really good

April 2024First time at the ballpark and it did not disappoint. Great views of the field no matter where you sit, as I found out by moving around to get different perspectives. The city backdrop with the bridges and buildings right on the river is stunning and not something many ballparks can claim as a unique feature. And as a visiting Orioles fan I was very impressed with how cordial and polite people were to visitors, unlike the hooligans at Phillies games that can be the most obnoxious fans around. Overall a great visit and even parking was very accessible, but my only gripe is that food was a bit flat and ordinary.

I will be honest. I love baseball and I am a nerd. I have played MLB The Show for years and have hit many a home run here and it always looked like such a beautiful park. It did not disappoint. Great park! Beautiful with lots of great views, a terrific staff. Very nice people. Unfortunately, it was two teams not in contention at this point so not a big crowd but it was such an amazing stadium! The hats were a little pricy ($45!?!?) but I got a cool magnet and the staff was really nice. Thank you. 🙏

Great Ball Park! Was there to see the Pirates play the Miami Marlins. The park was pretty empty since both teams are in last place. There is not a bad view in the park from any seat. We walked all around to enjoy the whole park. It’s nice and open with lots of great views of the field and the city.

They claim this is the best ball park in mlb. I definitely would say it is up there. Had some rain but will still put it right up there . The food was good. Had a wide variety of beers and bar selections. Seems like you get a good view from everywhere. I'm sure summer time this place is a party

Wonderful venue for a baseball park. Their lounges are great! Facilities are super clean and getting in and out is really easy. Having three walkable bridges nearby makes parking/hotel super convenient for shows or games. Being next to the water with the greenery and city in the background makes this park a favored venue! She’s a gem!!

I went to Pittsburgh to check out the hype surrounding PNC Park. I believe the hype is very much deserved. We stayed downtown and it is a quick and pleasant walk to the stadium. It's clean, the food is good, ticket prices are low and the backdrop is phenomenal. The Clemente Bridge being pedestrian only before and after the game offers a great view of the City and stadium. I'll absolutely be back.

My husband and I started our ball park road trip journey this past summer and chose PNC as our first ballpark to visit. It was everything we had hoped it would be! From the first moment we laid eyes on that front entrance our eyes popped out and our mouths dropped! What a magnificent place. We spent the first day touring around the park, looking at all the cool things the park offers and of course had to walk the Roberto Clemente bridge. The folks that work at the park are top notch. We were setting up to take some photos with the field as the back drop when one young gentle man said “go on right down to the wall and get your pics”. Our home town stadium would never allow you to into a section that wasn’t on your ticket! At PNC the ushers took us to our seats and wiped them down before letting us sit. Never waited in line for beer or food, there is just so many concessions to serve you. A fabulous experience, one I will not soon forget.

This has got to be one of the most beautiful baseball stadiums I have ever been to. The backdrop of the city skyline and the bridge is just stunning. The food options are robust. There’s a cute playground in the outfield seating area for small children to play. Most seats (outfield excluded) are in the shade when there’s an evening game.We sat in section 117 and those seats were phenomenal. We attended the Pirates vs Phillies game and the stadium was over full capacity.I recommend getting to the game at least an hour before the game starts to ensure you can get in the gates smoothly, grab food and a beer and enjoy your seat before the crowd arrives. The bathrooms were clean throughout the entire game - well done, staff! The fireworks show after the game was beautiful. It’s a night my family will remember.

The view here is beautiful. That’s five stars alone. As I am touring all the major league baseball stadiums I am comparing and taking notes. This ballpark didn’t quite have the variety of food selections that I’ve experienced elsewhere. The lines were a bit longer than other ballpark. I’ve noticed several ball parks, including this one have gone to a grab and go style drink cooler. The lines were very long. They did have a variety of drinks to choose from which was a positive. They could have a few more recycle containers around the ballpark. The restrooms never had a line. This ballpark is definitely very enjoyable to visit. I highly recommend you get a bite to eat before or after coming to the ballpark to minimize spending too much time in line to get a bite to eat or drink and missing the game.

What an absolute delight and an exhilarating view of the city from the stadium. As a disabled person, they were more than accommodating and made my experience even better than I could ever expect. I look forward to coming back and enjoying our amazing Pirates okay again. I am so impressed by everything and the wonderful accommodations provided to make this experience one of the most memorable of my life. My gram is looking down from heaven and I enjoyed it even more in her memory.

The ballpark features beautiful views of the river, bridges, and city skyline. There are great sightlines from every seat and there are many things here for young children to experience and enjoy. The food was a step up from ballpark fare but nothing really special. I think food in general at ballparks is overpriced and overrated including PNC and my own Oracle back home. Still any visit to Pittsburgh is not complete without a trek to this beautiful park.

Our first visit to PNC Park in Pittsburgh was nothing short of spectacular! As fans who typically frequent Camden Yards in Baltimore, we had high expectations, and PNC Park did not disappoint. When we arrived, it was clear that this ballpark offered an incredible experience worth just over a four-hour drive from our home near Baltimore. We were seated at the Club level, and it was fantastic. The view of the field was perfect, with an amazing backdrop of the Pittsburgh skyline that added a unique charm to the game-day atmosphere. The Club level provided a comfortable and upscale experience, with plenty of amenities that made our visit even more enjoyable. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and more than happy to answer our questions. Their attentiveness really added to the overall experience, making us feel welcome from the start. One of the highlights of our visit was the food. PNC Park offers a diverse and delicious selection of ballpark fare that rivals anything we’ve had at Camden Yards or any other stadium. Whether you're in the mood for classic ballpark hot dogs, loaded nachos, or more gourmet options, PNC Park has something for everyone. We particularly enjoyed the dessert pierogies, a local favorite, which added a special Pittsburgh touch to our visit. The quality and variety of food options really stood out and made our experience even more memorable. As a Mariners fan from Seattle, I always try to catch a game when they’re playing nearby, and this trip to PNC Park was well worth it. The combination of great seats, excellent service, and outstanding food made our first visit to PNC Park unforgettable. Whether you’re a die-hard baseball fan or just looking for a great day out, PNC Park is a must-visit destination. We’ll definitely be back, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch baseball experience!

First time here to see her Phillies play and unfortunately we lost. The park is a pretty cool place. I like all the baseballs on the outside of the stadium with the players from the past. Pretty cool view and the scoreboard is gigantic. I like how they had the guy coming up in between the innings and just doing different things on the microphone. The food options are pretty good and so are the drink options.

We went on a Monday night so getting to the park and parking was fairly easy. The park itself is very nice and staffed with happy to be there working folks. The park is very kid friendly with stuff for them to see and touch or climb through out the concourse. Basic ballpark food options which hit the spot just fine.

Not my 1st or my last visit to PNC park, the place is definitely a monument to check out and better off the off season and do a tour... Staff is always friendly and attentive & courteous, parking is easy off street parking right across & is $3 per hour on the weekdays or they have a lot 1 block away that's $10 for the day if you plan to eat and walk around the area after visiting PNC park.

We are from Detroit and love baseball. PNC Park was on our bucket list for a while, so we booked a trip and bought tickets to a Reds @ Pirates game. We had an excellent experience! It's a great ballpark with lots of cool spots to chill and watch the game (besides your seats). The views of the surrounding city from the ballpark were beautiful. Pirates fans are fun too! We loved the shouting of "raise the jolly roger" and "hoist the colors." - PNC is one of our new favorite ballparks. Arrrr!

My hometown bias will always have Orioles Park as the best ballpark, but PNC Park is a close second! The views are amazing. The staff are helpful and friendly. The fans were nice, even when the Pirates were losing. The atmosphere of the stadium is amazing.

First visit to PNC Park today for a Sunday matinee. Very impressed with this ballpark, very accessible - you can walk fully around and see lots of different views and food options. Plenty of kids play areas. Great views of the river, bridges and downtown. Parking was very reasonable and a 10 minute walk. Easy to get in and out of the stadium and the area immediately around the stadium has restaurants, bars and shops. Excellent overall experience.

The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a world-renowned conservatory that was founded in 1893. The botanical garden features gardens of all types, including floral displays, tropical plants, and a greenhouse.
We just went for their Christmas light display, and it was truly amazing. They have many beautifully executed displays with so many rooms and outdoor features. Phipps feel like a world-class experience. The plants, flowers, and botanicals from all sorts of climates were on display and matched tastefully with the Christmas lights. I look forward to seeing this again. I think it will be worth a visit in any season.

Wow! This is a must see for anyone! The entire place is gorgeous. In June the theme is under the sea. Each area was developed to mimic sea life and the structures were amazing! Beautiful flowers and plants in each area! I was so glad we went there! Additionally they have butterfly gardens and it was fun to watch them! Also loved the "real food" gardens that smelled amazing! Great fun and a learning experience as well! Highly recommend going!

This place was amazing. The variety of plants, ferns and flowers that were there to see was awesome. Easily spent 2 hours just walking through the whole place except the Japanese garden and the cacti area which were closed. They also have a nice cafe and gift shop. It was pretty good but I found the way it's exhibited is more for families. There are so many distractions so I imagine kids won't get bored. I'd probably give 5 stars if I was with kids lolAs a solo visitor who loves plants, I wanted to learn more about plants themselves. There was no waiting to buy a ticket for me, but when I left there, I saw a line. It wasn't too long, but I'd recommend you to get tickets online.

I had such a nice time at Phipps yesterday afternoon. We ordered tickets online and were able to walk in easily/quickly bypassing the lines. Since we went on a Sunday the parking area nearby was free. We spent about 1.5-2 hours here just walking around checking out all of the flowers/displays. Everything was so nice and since we got there early we seemed to have beat the crowds. I believe they change up their displays, but I’m not sure of the changing frequency. I bet it’s always pretty cool though. They also have a cafe and pretty cute gift shop. Overall we had a great day and I’m excited to have gotten a chance to go!

This is a quiet, beautiful place to go on a rainy day! The only downside to visiting during inclement weather is missing the outdoor displays. The spring show is lovely. Purchase tickets online in advance. The only slots available when we looked 4 days in advance were in the evening. There are construction issues that affect traffic and parking, so be sure to research things before traveling in.

This is a place you definitely don't want to miss. No matter if it's an individual or for a family with kids/seniors, definitely worth visiting! It has covered most popular plants from all over the world. Good to see the details or just browsing around. It took me one hour for the tour. Some of the areas were very hot because of the simulation of tropical areas. We did have great fun come visiting here. Strongly recommended!!

This is my favorite place in Pittsburgh. I have had a membership for quite a few years and it’s one of the best gifts I get myself every year. The shows are beautiful and every season they outdo themselves. It’s beautiful and peaceful. I bring family and friends and children. The holiday show cannot be missed.

What a gem. Parking is easily accessible and on a Saturday morning, there are still spaces. Not very crowded and if you explore the outdoor gardens there are very few people. Some gardens were closed off as the "Under the Sea" is still in process but do not allow that to deter you as there is a wide array of gardens to still choose from. The Hawaii exhibit was fantastic, the atmosphere was a complete change, a wonderful experience. This is very interactive. They're gardens, with buttons to push for added effects. Many booths with tvs running explaining the histories of how plants are used and 3D maps. To fully explore what was available took around 2.5 hours. There is a cafe on site. Some gardens like the butterfly or the orchids have significant temperature changes, if you're prone to overheating, please note that.

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Fallingwater, a residential masterpiece designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, has been designated as a landmark and is now open for public tours. Located around an hour and a half southeast of Pittsburgh, the house is made of stone, concrete and glass which blend together seamlessly. The space exudes grandeur with its breathtaking history that dates back to the 1930s. The visitor center before entering the house showcases simplicity and complexity at their finest, with the foundation being praised for maintaining its original charm.
Great work of architecture! Love the floating terraces.Good hike and exercise trails for me but not for old people who has difficulty walking on rough grounds.Knowing the history of the house and the owners is an honor. When going wear comfortable clothing's and shoes. 👟

This place was so cool, it actually gave me so much inspiration of architectural designs. This review is a few years late. Learned so much about the architect and visited some more of his sights/designs. Walking around this area is very nice/refreshing. This house has such a strong structure, and pictures do not do it justice, especially how big it really is.My friend cover the fee, not sure how muchThere was a good amount of parking as well.Note: There is little to no wifi in this areaNote 2: Can get pretty packed with touristNote 3: There are restroom and a small cafe to buy some food.

This place is one of kind. A beautiful nature walk to a true wonder. The visitor center seemed so calm and peaceful. it's an open roof in the woods. Even the mens room was beautiful. You can take guided tours, but it seems you have to book in advance, but for $15, you can walk the grounds on your own and still see the beauty. The cafe was really good and eating out in the lobby of the visitors center was very peaceful. I'm definitely glad to go. It is highly recommended to check out.

Make your reservations a week ahead of time because this place is so very popular. whether a student of architecture or not anyone would enjoy this place. Takes about 90 minutes. Gift store and small museum is here.Admission currently is $36 for adults. No need to bring an umbrella because one is furnished and the view from the back of the property is second to none. I loved this day... tours are scheduled throughout the day.

It is worth the visit. When we arrived we went to the visitor centre, which was refreshingly built as a roofed outdoor central space with little indoor spaces around it for a coffee shop, store, washrooms and gallery. Great design. The tour left from a ramp leaving the visitor area and down a path towards the house. Each person was given an ear piece to listen to the tour educator so you could walk as a loose group through the grounds while easily listening to the educator speak. This was the case in the house, too so you could spread out and look around while listening. Our tour educator was Cody and they were so well spoken, knowledgeable and friendly making me feel at ease and enjoy the tour. The house is an amazingly designed structure and the history of the building and family is fascinating. The bonus was also all the artwork, with beautiful sculptures, drawings and paintings including a Picasso. And the grounds are lush and beautiful. I hope to go back again.

They also have cafe and hiking trails so you can definitely spend good amount of time here!

This was an incredible experience as I was passing through Pennsylvania. The drive to Fallingwater through the steep hills and small holler towns of Southern PA was gorgeous. The staff are knowledgeable and are passionate about this property. Linda was a great educator and tour guide! You can take your time through the grounds and through the house. Architecturally unique and it feels like a relaxing 70’s style house inside. Would love to spend a night here!

We did the first In-depth guided tour available - recommended if you want to take pictures of the house interior.. with a smaller group.. and the earlier in the day the better - with as few people as possible..!The visitor center has WiFi, a cafe, and coffee, too.

Worthy both the drive and the fees. The house is gorgeous, the area is beautiful and Eugene, our guide, was knowledgeable and pleasant. On a weekday of May there were tours going out every 10 min, so I do not recommend going without reservations. Ohiopyle state park is just a few min away.

This place is amazing!! The house is one of a kind for sure! Everything inside is original to the architect’s design…The grounds are serene, peaceful and beautiful! We splurged and took the intensive architectural tour and it truly was worth it!! We got to see every room and terrace! Our guide, Karen O., was great! She was very knowledgeable about the house, its history, its owners and its surroundings! She was kind, patient and took an interest in everyone in the group (she remembered all of our names which was quite impressive!!)…she was also very attentive to us (my mother walks with a cane)…I highly recommend this gem nested in the forrest !!

Visited this spot on Friday of Memorial Day weekend and it was better than I anticipated. I did the architectural tour which I highly recommend. Also booked my ticket a week in advance and it was the last available for the day. I loved the organic nature of the house-the outdoor terraces are bigger than the bedrooms, and he did such a good job of bringing the outside in. It’s hard to believe he built this in the early 30s-def felt more 50s/60s. The tour was informative, our guide was knowledgeable, and she said Edgar Kaufmann Jr. designed the tour. I explored the grounds after, and you can even explore 2 of the terraces at your leisure. Great experience overall.

We’d been planning this trip for a long time and we’re not disappointed. Ordered our tix in advance, and we arrived early so we could walk around first but were able to go on our tour an hour earlier. Our tour guide was great, funny and able to answer any question.Wasn’t humid day so it was really enjoyable. So happy we finally saw this home in person and hope to see more of his homes too

Unbelievable. I was so amazed at how huge this house really is, I think it has 7 levels. Frank Lloyd Wright was incredibly ahead of his time when designing this place, even by today's standards it's still fantastically futuristic. The building defies logic, it seems to float on top of the waterfall. It blends in with nature by design. Wright calls this "organic architecture"! While Falling Water is extremely remote (90 minutes from Pittsburgh) it is SO worth the trip to see this marvelous creation.

Polymath is a well-preserved gem of Frank Lloyd Wright homes combined with exquisite cuisine. Our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge with an infectious passion for Wright’s work. And Tom is a beautiful spirit whose care pours into the homes, Tree Tops restaurant, and all of those who work there to make the resort singular in all of its offerings. Visit, eat, stay, and relish in this secret paradise.

Fun visit. Took a bit to get there the way to took, but well worth the drive. Not a cheap visit for the family, but one of Franks most famous builds so you gotta see it. We did the walking self tour. Be prepared to hike it out with steps the whole way.Go to the view first and then walk over to the house. The view is the iconic image of the house on the falls.

The house and surrounding area is very pretty. The tour staff seemed very well informed and knew answers to any questions asked.Maybe it's just me, but $36 for a one hour tour is steep. Also, the gift shop souvenirs are extremely fancy, ergo extremely expensive. Some simpler items at an easier price would have been nice.

Kids-oriented amusement park offers a ferris wheel & more mild rides, a wave pool & water slides.
Absolutely lovely! The park is incredibly well thought out: from arrival to departure.1. The parking lot system is exceptional. It’s easy to park and get into the amusement park. They have multiple lots around the facility to minimize the walking for little legs.2. Rides are older but well maintained: we road almost every ride in the park. They were all exceptionally well maintained and the staff was actively cleaning and maintaining the entire park as we played.3. The conversion of Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood to Daniel Tiger was adorable and done well: they reused the sets perfectly.4. Raccoon Lagoon is perfect for littles under 5! We were never bored.5. The water park portion is absolutely lovely. A lazy river, slides, a wave pool, a toddler area, and a dragon ship for older kids is perfect. There should be more shade, though: for safety sake.

We love Idlewild! It is such a great park, and we have made so many fun memories there! For our family, the season passes; they are so worth it! You can go as often as you want in the summer and fall with most of the passes. Their payment plan system they have is great and can make it more affordable for families. Another little thing I wanted to mention. Sometimes we have people in our group that need a wheelchair, and I noticed this year they are offering mobility scooter rentals now, which is great!

Food was overpriced. Free parking. A lot of things were closed including gift shops. We bought a souvenir cup almost 13bucks and it's the 2017 one, pretty bummed about that. Ordered a combo and didn't get a side or a drink. It's definitely run down and needs a fresh coat of paint and some upgrades. We only went for Daniel Tiger, rode the trolley, train and carousel. Lots of shade and bees. They did offer beer at one stand (8-10 bucks per) and food not containing meat (cheese Pizza and Fries). My daughter had fun she's almost two but she also didn't realize what she was missing with the rides, she was to small to go alone and adults were to big (for her age group).

Buy your tickets online for special holiday visits. We saved $30.00 per ticket buying online. It is a very nice, "kid friendly" park nestled in the woods with quite a bit of shade. There are a lot of classic rides and park food you will enjoy. There is also the Soak Zone and Storybook Forest. All in all, a nice get away for a day.Located between Latrobe and Ligonier PA.Parking is free.

Amazing family oriented amusement park. They still have some originals and have made improvements on a few of the rides. It's definitely not modern, but it's perfect for a family with younger kids. We appreciate that my 2 1/2 and 7 year old have a lot of different rides to enjoy, but also the Jumping Jungle and Storybook Forest offer up fun 'nonriding' activities as well. Storybook Forest has characters throughout and they are so sweet and interact with the kids. Snow White took the time to point out each dwarf (figures) and their names. She included some fun stories with it too. There's little wait for the kiddie rides even on a beautiful weekend afternoon in August, the longest wait we had was for the Wild Mouse and that was about 20 minutes. I would definitely seek out discount tickets. We chose Groupon and saved over $50 for a family of 4. Bring your own water if you can or be ready to pay $4/bottle. I'd also suggest packing up snacks as they don't have any restrictions on coolers or bags. Finally, park anywhere and it's a very short walk into different areas of the park. (I can't speak about Soak Zone because we didn't go to that area.)

Had a great time at Idlewild & SoakZone with the family! This classic Pennsylvania amusement park really delivers on its promise of being great for families with younger kids. The mix of traditional rides and water attractions makes it easy to spend a full day here, especially during summer.Highlights:- Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood area is absolutely perfect for toddlers- SoakZone was refreshing and well-maintained- Staff were friendly and attentive- Beautiful, shaded park setting with lots of mature trees- Good variety of food options (loved the Turkey leg)Pro tips: Arrive early to beat the crowds, bring water shoes for SoakZoneOverall, while it's not the biggest or most thrilling park out there, Idlewild offers solid family entertainment and good value for the price. Perfect for families with kids under 12

I visited the park last week with several family members. Story Book Forest was greatly improved since our last visit. The live characters were amazing and added so much to the experience. The young woman who played Snow White was outstanding in her interaction with my autistic granddaughter. I only gave 4 stars but 4.5 is more reasonable. The water pond where 3 Men in a Tub needs to be cleaned up and the Good Ship Lollipop restored. I found the food prices to be extremely high. We had a fabulous day and I highly recommend the park for a great family outing.

So much fun we picked up a season pass. It’s the perfect theme park for all ages, but mainly for children. Daniel Tiger has his own section and trolley ride. There is a storybook Forest plus historical locomotive that will drop you off at the front or back of the park. Definitely has a G/PG rated Kennywood vibe with mini sand castle attached. Rent a cabana if you want privacy and a place to escape by the water.

Park needs real supervisors. No compensation for the awful experience my family had. Child exposed himself to my daughter. Another child wearing underwear in swim area. Staff in story book forest screaming die already over and over again while hitting a bug w a broom. Crowd gets ghetto and wears swim wear throughout park, man without shirt in storybook forest drinking extra large beer. People vaping everywhere. Women wearing short mini dresses with butts hanging out. Woman with her breast falling out of a gown she wore. Since they opened wave pool the crowd that now attends is ghetto. Over priced food, over priced games. Park not taken care of. Bathroom had water coming out under walls flooding stalls. Outlets not covered where children could stick fingers in. When brought to supervisor attention all she said was sorry no compensation of any sorts offered even after I told her my meals were not discounted as offered w the season pass purchase. Halloboo isn’t worth it they give dinner mints and things kids don’t even like as part of trick or treat experience. They don’t reinvest in park or give anything back to the people.

My family and I absolutely love coming to this park because of its history. Three generations coming here as kids so it will always have a special place in our hearts. So we truly appreciate the updates they are starting to make in storybook forest and hope to see more to come! The dressed up characters really make it as well. The waterpark, however, was less desirable. All areas had very cold water, even for a high 80’s hot day, and felt very unclean, especially the bathrooms. All food stands throughout all areas of park were understaffed or closed where that could use improvements as well. Also the main last complaint that truly upset us was the fact that they took away some of the most memorable and special rides and attractions that were unique to their park compared to others (the pond boats, toddler bumper cars, crank ride, sack slide). We truly are hoping they will return them after repairs but it does not look like that is the plan unfortunately. We went on a Saturday at the end of August and it was very busy where we did not get to everything we had hoped to ride in park. Overall, had a wonderful time and hope to come back soon!

My family and I were there this Saturday. We had a awesome time. We unfortunately lost our car keys As the park closed. The park staff went above and beyond to help us find them. Everyone was a big help from helping us look for them to opening up rides to check seats. Security stayed with us while we waited for our ride home, and drove us to the gate. They were found this morning at the gift shop!!!!! We Again wanted to thank everyone from the security guard that brought our children food to the workers that stayed with us through closing. We're extremely grateful. See you all again soon!!!!

This old park has a nostalgic atmosphere and is tucked in amongst the Laurel Mountains. There are 4 sections of the park which is all family friendly. The first part is Storybook Forest which showcases classic fairytales and is interactive. It's decorated with miniature houses that you can walk through and your kids will love it. Next is the main part of the amusement park which has old wooden rides and many fun games. There are lots of food choices and plenty of places to sit. Then if you walk across the large wooden bridge or take the train you will find Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. There are a ton on rides for the little ones and even some games and food in this section. Last is Soak Zones, you'll need a full day to explore the fun water slides, the giant water bucket, wave pool, enormous interactive pirate ship for the small kiddies and the lazy river. There are changing rooms and lockers. The staff were friendly and the park was clean. I love Idlewild and I've taken my family there for years. My only complaint is that they no longer have the antique photo studio. We would get a family picture every year as a tradition and had fun dressing up in period clothing. This was a disappointment for my family. Also their prices for food, games and entry have gone up significantly which made things a little challenging during our visit. Over all it's a fun place to go with your family. We have made some long lasting memories at this magical place.

We have been visiting this park since the 1990's. First with our own kids and yesterday with grandchildren. I love the updates done to storybook forest and the characters were the best we have ever experienced. We would have loved to have been able to tour storybook forest at 9AM like we did with our own children as this makes getting through the park easier. We like that the parking lots make packing a picnic lunch an option and convenient. We were going to eat dinner at the park before leaving, but the food was outrageously expensive so we left the park and went to McDonald's drive through. We thought the park was very clean and we noticed significant updates and painting repairs since our visit 2 years ago. Nicely done! One issue we had that caused significant frustration was that bathrooms were very difficult to locate on the map and were not well marked in the park. The maps are to small to actually read details like restrooms. We were disappointed that the park closed at 7pm which we did know about before arriving but it makes it impossible to do everything in a single day. We live 3 hours away in Ohio and used to arrive at the park at 9Am and leave at 10PM.Yesterday we realized that there was no way to do the water park and Old Idlewild amusement rides so we gave the kids a choice. They picked the rides therefore for the first time ever we did not use the water park. We live close to multiple water parks but it was still disappointing. With the exception of hours and restroom issues, we love this park and will return.

10 years ago, I would have gladly left a 5-star review. But I can’t do that today because many of the rides that made Idlewild a “World’s Best Park for Kids” are gone. It’s still better for young kids than Kennywood or Sesame Place, but Idlewild has definitely been slipping.Inexplicably, management took away the kiddie land bumper cars, child/parent crank cars, kiddie boats, sack slides, etc. Jumpin’ Jungle is a shadow of what it used to be, due to ride closures. Too much of what made Idlewild unique, special, and memorable is gone or going. It’s on path to become just another forgettable park.I’ll give them a year to hopefully bring some of the history back, and show some renewed commitment to small kids, otherwise we’re probably reducing our interest. The trees and stream are beautiful and the staff is wonderful.

We stopped at Idlewild while touring the small amusement parks in NY and PA and just loved the nostalgia of the park. It felts like stepping back into the 50s or 60s where families would vacation at a place like this for a week or two. They have a nice selection of rides, but it’s not really a thrill seeker park. It’s wonderful to just slow it down and enjoy the flat rides and beautiful scenery. The have two coasters. Rollo Coaster is a well maintained woody from 1938. It’s a great family style coaster. They also have a wild mouse steel coaster that is pretty fun.We enjoyed our time there and will be back!

Today had a blastMy child loved the roller coaster. At first he was a little afraid but Megan who was handling line and entrance was extremely professional and dedicated to her job. When my son got a little afraid she talked to him and made him laugh. She is should be a role model for other employees

My son and I visited the park today and we had such a great time!! I really wanted to give a huge shout out to the 3, maybe 4 boys running the Rollo Coaster today they were so friendly and had that ride running so quickly and smoothly! It is very nice to run into happy and friendly employees, especially when you have children :-)

Idlewild and SoakZone was always one of my favorite places to go as a kid and now as an adult with a kid. We usually arrive when the park opens and try to leave by 3:00 p.m. as it gets crowded later in the day. The best thing to do is to go to the wave pool area early in the morning, then leave SoakZone around lunch time when it starts to get crowded. We usually pack a lunch since the food is expensive. Depending on how much money you plan to spend, you may be better off purchasing the gold annual pass. We go several times throughout the year, and barely spend any money when we go. With each gold pass, you receive a free souvenir refill cup (free refills) and a nice discount on the food venues. This year they discontinued the 99 cent popcorn refill bucket. I spoke to the person selling the popcorn and she said there are a lot of people upset about it, so we are hopeful that they will bring it back. This park is geared for families with smaller children. Our son just became 37” tall this year and can ride most of the rides now. In addition to SoakZone (water park), and the normal rides, there is also a Kiddieland for younger children and Story Book Forrest. These two parts of the park are fun to go to for smaller children and take a lot of time to go through. All in all Idlewild and SoakZone are great places to go, but plan to spend a lot of money. For an example, the duck pond game was $10.
