Final Fantasy 14's first major content update since Dawntrail is here, and it's packed to the brim with fresh content ripe for exploring.

It feels like only days ago that Final Fantasy 14's Dawntrail expansion sent shockwaves across the MMORPG's fanbase, and now it looks like we're staring down the barrel of something new entirely. After Tural came to life in the expansion, players have been wondering what to expect in terms of content updates, and players finally have their answers in the form of the new update, titled Crossroads, packed with plenty of new quests and details to keep players busy after the end of the game's Fall Guys collab and All Saints' Wake Halloween event.

There's plenty more to see in the wider notes for the update, though – so now that the Crossroads release date has been and gone, here's the best things you need to know about featured in the Final Fantasy 14 patch notes for the Crossroads 7.1 update, as shared on The Lodestone.

New Quests

For players with access to the Dawntrail and Endwalker expansions, there are a whole host of fresh quests for you to take on once you’ve passed level 90 and 100 revealed in the new Final Fantasy 14 patch notes. You’ll be able to head to Tuliyollal to speak to Bol Wuruq to kickstart the Royal Invitation questline, which leads to a further six quests. Plus, the Chronicles of a New Era questline has begun with the Hoobigo Messenger, sending you on a threat of adventures beginning with an “Otherworldly Encounter.”

New Alliance Raid

Perhaps one of the best examples of Final Fantasy 14’s community coming together is with an alliance raid, and players are treated to a brand new dungeon in which to get them done. Jeuno: The First Walk will allow eight players or an alliance of 24 players into the new raid to squash baddies and earn some fresh rewards. Get up to Disciple of War or Magic level 100, and access is all yours.

New Housing

There are some new options for players to hone in on their perfect digital home in the latest Final Fantasy 14 patch notes, allowing them to select a new interior design style for their private estate, from Riviera and Oasis to Far Eastern and Minimalist styles. Plus, some new items from the Furnishing Design Contest have been added, made up of items that won the competition, and some that didn’t. For those who put a lot of pressure on how they appear in game, this is a feature that will give you hours of playtime.

New cosmetics and emotes

Some new hairstyles have been added for a few in-game races, and a huge collection of emotes are now available to be used while sitting down. For players looking for an immersive social experience with Final Fantasy 14, this change will enhance this significantly. Think VR Chat, but themed.

New Game+ Support for Dawntrail

Dawntrail was a blast for many players, but since completing the main story, players haven’t had the chance to revisit its best moments. This changes with the latest Final Fantasy 14 patch notes, giving players both Part 1 and Part 2 to replay once the Dawntrail main scenario quest has been completed. The same goes for the Melee DPS, Physical Ranged DPS and Magical Ranged DPS Role Quests, along with the Viper and Pictomancer Quests immediately.

New PvP changes

Some major changes have come to PvP, led by changes to hit detection and adjustments to maximum HP for many different jobs. Plus, changes to overtime in Chrystalline Confluct are coming into effect – players will win PvP in overtime if they have the greater progress score at the end, and in the case of a draw in this regard, the team who moved the tactical crystal closest to the goal point will win. This also comes with adjustments to the Cloud Nine and Red Sands arenas.

New Items

A whole host of new items have arrived in the latest Final Fantasy 14 patch notes, including new weapons for Viper and Pictomancer classes and new armours and clothing options. There is also a huge collection of clothing items now available to be worn regardless of a player’s character gender. With these new items comes the Outfit Glamour feature, which condenses a combination of items into only one slot for cosmetic purposes only. The items that can be used with this feature are denoted with a '+' hovering over its Glamour icon.

The DMV picture is dead

The Final Fantasy 14 patch has offered a lot to players, featuring a long-awaited change to the game's character portrait system, that reduced a portrait of exciting and compelling characters to something out of a driver's license. The feature can now offer players the chance to instantly change their character's armour in the picture, helping to reflect in their public cards the way that the character actually chooses to present in the wider game. It's a small touch, but a master stroke from developers to help keep Final Fantasy 14's digital photographer fanbase happy.

It’s a big, big update that serves as a great way to follow up the whopper that is Dawntrail. Final Fantasy 14 players just keep winning, and if this is a rollout that Square Enix can keep up, then the Dawntrail era of the game could just be the greatest in the game’s history. No pressure or anything.
